This eagle ray just cut out in front of us off the top of the wall. We followed it and then all of a sudden it shot straight up and out of the water and back down again without the remoras!! Couldn't believe what we had seen!! It was AWESOME!!! By the way, great diving off the Sundancer!! Would go back in a heartbeat!!

:smilie40: enjoy!

Yeah, it was probably trying to ditch those remoras. Pure luck to have the camera on when he cut out in front of us and then to be able to follow him and see him shoot up and out of the water was amazing! Wish we had a shot of our faces after we saw what had just happened! The clip was taken with an old analog Sony video camera and Sony marine housing. It inspired us to invest in a new Sony camera and housing.

Recently there was a boating accident where a ray (I think it was an eagle ray, but not positive) flew out of the water and hit a woman in a boat and killed her. Anyone else here about this incident?

if i had remoras clinging to me like that, i'd be jumping out of the water to shale them off, too!

thanks for posting that cool vid.

My favorite dive is when I saw two spotted eagle rays about that size, but not nearly that close up

We've had pretty good luck spotting eagle rays just swimming along the top of the wall. We saw a family of four off the North Wall in Grand Cayman. They separated and swam around us. The two little ones separated and kind of got distracted, just as kids would. The larger of the two rays then hovered over us possibly making sure that we were not going to mess with their little ones?? Who knows... I just really enjoy observing their behaviors. Seems that in the end, it's a matter of survival of the fittest. :smiley2:
