A question for the ladies.

In general, do you enjoy your dives more with a male dive buddy, or a female dive buddy?

I'll settle for Jessica Alba.

:)

She certainly has mastered her skin-diving skills.

Good question!! Please include why you prefer one or the other too...

I forgot to mention. Guys, please don't vote. I am interested in the ladies' opinions.

I would have to say I favor having a male dive buddy for boat diving, just for the fact I got their muscle if I need help manuevuing around with all my gear on.
Local lake diving, I have no preference.

I better see a male vote from Osprey or I'll feel very inadequate.

I dive with my girlfriend and my best friend. Don't take this out of context, but I go both ways.

I'm sure no one will take it out of context.

Hey, I almost bit right through my lip while writing that. Now, I'll have to go home and soak the wound in some kind of alcohol, you know, to sterilize it.

I've had both, I like a dive buddy that is responsible

Not if you stick to warmer waters :smiley36:

It seems like the guys are more interested in this thread than the ladies are.

I think more of the guys have jobs that require them sitting in front of computers all day.

..or we just want to feel like we're needed. :smiley36:

after all, we all sort of look alike when we're geared up. Unless we're Jessica Alba, that is. :smiley29:

I like to think that the film editors have to do alot of editing to make Jessica Alba look perfect, but probably not!

My dive buddy is my husband. But on occasion my dive buddy is my mom. I feel that they are both good buddies. Of course having my husband around is nice cause he can help me out with the heavy stuff a little easier than my mom...but she does a fine job. So I voted no preference.

I don't think the gender really matters. I really think it just depends on the person. I dive a lot with my sister and she's a great buddy, always checking on me. I trust her, she trust's me. Its nice to have a guy for the heavy lifting, but I try to be as self reliant as possible. Some men can be over confident in their abilities and I feel like I'm not a bad diver, but can always learn more. Lots of the guys I dive with really don't do well with a buddy. Or they don't think they need one.

I get a lot of the insta-buddies, and generally the women have better air consumption so I don't have to cut short my dive. But other than that I don't care.

No preference really, I do however, prefer to know my buddy and enjoy their company (hate getting stuck with someone I've never met before--inevitably it's some know-it-all that doesn't)

No preference for me. It doesn't matter if you're male or female. The important thing is how good a diver you are. If you're a safe diver who cares? As said above, in most places we all look the same once we're geared up in wetsuit, tanks, maks, etc.

My answer is skewed because my #1 dive buddy is my husband and I've never had a female dive buddy. ;)

I'll dive with whoever needs someone when I travel... I either travel solo or am taking a group somewhere. When I'm with my group of 5 regulars, we tend to all dive together and split up to shoot pics and then find each other again.

I only have 10 dives and so far all my dive buddies have also been close friends - male and female, but I think I would not have a preference as long as the person with whom I am diving is a good diver.

I have never had a female dive buddy. I have dove with either ex husband, boyfriend or someone from class (and of course poor Illini_Fan has been the designated dive buddy since aow).

I would prefer someone with same or more training & equal air consumption.

I did have some one (a man) that made sure that I very clearly understood that the first two letters of scuba applied to me & would not help me with gear or tanks or to give a hand. that was a very valuable lesson.

For my part, I prefer female dive buddies, because they tend to be more cognizant of deep stops and safety stops, and bottom time.

I didn't vote in the poll, so as to not skew the results, but I'll dive with either with little preference. I prefer to dive with the more experienced diver, regardless of sex, but not every time.

Of course, given a choice between equally talented divers, I'll choose the woman. Because, as a guy, I'd rather look at a woman than a man. :D

Same reason, and I have a lot of insta-buddies too. Plus some of the guys buddies I've dove with seem to want to swim really fast and cover lots of ground or have something to prove, and I like to take my time. I voted for a lady buddy, but I would rather have my hubby as a buddy, just have to get him to learn to dive.

I have no preference. What matter for me is someone that I can count on and someone who dives for the same reason as me.

I think I'm going to say no preference, because there are plusses and minuses to both.

My normal dive buddy is either my husband, or a good friend who's a guy, so must of the time it's a guy. However, my friend's fianceť has been my dive buddy as well.

If for some reason I wasn't diving with my husband or friends, I'd prefer a guy because they can help lift stuff (I have weak arms and can't carry a tank very far), and a female because they're usually more considerate and less likely to swim off like a rocket and leave my slow self behind.

In my AOW class I'm paired up with a guy (who's a sort-of friend) and he swims like a dang rocket. He's always leaving me in the dust, and when we were doing a mask-off navigation drill, the instructor told me to let him crash into the wall because I couldn't keep up with him and maybe it'd be a lesson to slow down for your buddy!

I usually make sure I get in shape for my dive vacations etc. I think I enjoy the whole experience more if the surface interval doesn't make me want to kill myself so you might want to lift a few weights :smiley20:
