I get the joy of having my wife travel to Hollywood for a business trip and I get to jump along, We will be there in September, any recommendation on dive ops in the area? Also, how do they operate, similiar to carribbean dives where they are all guided, or more like carolina dives where I come from where you do your own dive plan

i am not sure about any area ops, but all the diving i did in florida is your on your own unless you pay or request a DM to guide you. some have DM's in the water but nothing is guided especially in the tampa, venice, key largo areas

Plan your own dive unless you hire a DM. Check out American Dream out of Ft. Lauderdale. They are located next to Pier 66 (10 mins from Ft Laud. airport) Website found here:

My wife and I did our cert dives two days on Scubatyme and loved it. It's a little further than American dream. I have not been on american dream but have heard great things. What I can speak to is the quality of service they offered on Scubatyme. Fresh pineapple between dives and a stocked cooler on board. Enjoy your stay and have fun on our reefs/wrecks!

I dive regularly in the Ft. Lauderdale to West Palm area (1 - 4 times a month). Best dive boats I have found are the Diversity out of Boca Raton (561) 368-9952, Dixie Divers out of Hillsboro Buy scuba gear, scuba diving and everything underwater from www.dixiediver.com - (http://www.dixiedivers.com) and the one we used the most, South Florida Dive Headquarters South Florida Diving Headquarters (http://www.southfloridadiving.com). The dive masters and captains seem to care if you enjoy yourself and help you find what you are looking for. They are all very knowledgable and helpful if problems occur and can usually fix anything. I have found West Palm the currents are too hard to work against and Ft. Lauderdale reefs aren't as nice. Pompano to Boca is the best I have found in this area.
