I think those who stayed in the water may have a great story to tell but I would have thought the best place to be was on the shore.

It doesn't pay to stand and watch. It definatly makes for a good story but why put yourself in that situation. Watch from a distance is always a good idea.

I'm jealous of those dudes. That would be an epic story to tell!

If that were me out there, those people would have thought Jesus just came back, because I'd have been walking (running) on water! Those guys were nuts!

Looks like these guys were trying to earn their Darwin Awards.

And ya gotta know, the guy with the beer, just moments earlier, yelled out "Here, hold my beer. Watch this..."

Fun. I wonder what species they were. That is a tall straight dorsal fin on the biggest one. I'm wondering if it was a Great Hammerhead. The fin actually looked more similar to a Killer Whale, which it obviously wasn't.

How is standing in 2 feet of water next to a shark any different than swimming with one? I've swam with sharks, so does that make me an idiot?

Incidentally, my wife would answer "Yes". :)

I would think making a run for the beach would be more likely to trigger a attack, I think standing still and just enjoy the view would be the best course of action.

I look forward to my first shark encounter (which doesn't end with violence). Sharks tend to attack creatures on the surface. They tend to come up to attack from below. When a diver is below the surface, the diver appears to be another large predator. There are fewer attacks at depth than at the surface.

I think waytooslow is dead-on.
