Self sufficiency and redundancy, to make a long story short. I got my solo card through SDI.

Trey just go to groups to join Solo Forum to be able to view.

I am contemplating picking up a blue water carbon Euro from SCUBAStore. How's the polespear? Kelp is pretty bad now for carrying one here, but I still see some with floatlines attached.

Check out Spearboard Spearfishing Community - Powered by vBulletin (http://www.spearboard.com) for all your spearing Q's. There's even a forum for pole spears only. I know Manny "The Shark Man" uses a float line, as do others. There a couple of good threads on how they rig them. Don't know about kelp, non of that in the Gulf.

Yes, I got a polespear from Carl Krupansky. Trey got one from Ray Odor.

Deeperblue.com has more info on carbon Euro's.

I was at the Freedive Shop in Sacramento last month and saw my first carbon guns. Picasso, Omer, Beuchat. I heard of a Spearo stepping on his when boarding and cracking it in half.

my instructors know i prefer solo and they make sure i realize what I shoudl eb aware of. What they did do was encourage my wife and daughter to act as bubble watchers and backup divers.

In all reality I'm not going to teach you anything to make Solo Diving any safer. What you are going to learn is to plan your dives better and carry redundancy in everything to improve your odds on coming back. The dives in my class tend to lean toward calculating your SAC rate 3 different ways and an emphasis on emergency proceedures.

I do believe that currently the only agency that does a solo certification is SDI. website: International Training :: Home :: (http://www.tdisdi.com/) Some information is there along with a seach engine for instructors. The materials can be bought from a LDS that teaches SDI.

I would strongly recommend getting the materials and study them well in advance of the class. This in and of itself helped me.

No, a PADI instructor can not proxy the class. The instructor must be registered/trained as a SDI/TDI/ERDI instructor. A PADI instructor I know well has tried unsuccessfully several times to get approval to teach a Solo specialty.

If the "TN" in your user name is Tennessee, there are 4 SDI dealers in TN: Cordova, Memphis, Murfreesboro and Spring hill.
