I understand that some technical diving gear configurations call for a long hose on the primary that is looped around the diver's neck.

When donating air - the primary is donated and the donor ducks the head to allow the loop of hose to slide off the head and uncoil.

How does this work when a panicked buddy grabs the primary out of the "donor's" mouth? I'm sure this is well planned for contingency...

"When donating air - the primary is donated and the donor ducks the head to allow the loop of hose to slide off the head and uncoil."

This is exactly how it works. Your secondary would be attached by a necklace where it could be retrieved (hands free if needed).

Here is a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sqHa1kLLks&feature=related) that shows pretty well how to deploy the long hose. Even if your buddy runs out of air and you do not know that he is comming for your reg it comes off your head pretty easily... They will have no problems getting the reg...
