Free Diving in Kelp (http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=22351)

I am posting in multiple areas so it does not get lost.

Posted in multiple threads. There are about 7 Abalone freediver deaths a year on our coast Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, California.

It may be natural causes. Older males heart attacks. Many are found with their weight belts on. It may be that recreational divers that are not comfortable negotiating kelp on SCUBA are freediving it. Or out of shape divers without a competant buddy. Who knows.

Always dive with a buddy. The conditions can be rough and visibility poor. Do not over weight like on SCUBA. Take it easy, assess the situation, and do not freedive past ones capabilities and experience.
