Hey guys -

Glad to see that Larry got this forum going, I've been meaning to check it out for a while, but now I see it is alive and kicking!

Just a quick intro - I am the publisher of a popular underwater photography & video portal DivePhotoGuide.com.

Will definitely post some info in the forum from time to time on the inside scoop of the underwater photo & video world.

I wanted to kick that off with a statement about the massive barrage of SLR's hitting the market - it's crazy. before the year is out there will have been over 25 new SLR's that hit the market this year!

Two more just were announced this past week, and they will provide to be very popular with underwater photographers as their predecessors have been.

First Canon introduced the 50D (http://www.divephotoguide.com/articles/canon_finally_releases_15_1_megapixel_eos_50d). If you shoot with a 40D, rest easy - no new housing should be necessary, the body is nearly identical to the 40D.

On the Nikon side, they announced the D90 (http://www.divephotoguide.com/articles/nikon_releases_the_d90). I'm afraid that this is a new body configuration and will most likely not fit into any retrofitted housing.

Feel free to PM me if you ever need any specific info. I don't have all the answers, but I have a lot of them :)

I know Scuba Toys sells Ikelite housings and I'm sure Ikelite will have housings for the D90 soon, and again the 50D should be the same as the 40D housing. Also, Canong shooters will be happy to hear that Ikelite just released a housing for the Canon Digital 1000-D Rebel XS as well.

Ok, that was a lot for a first post, and I'll try to keep you guys informed as the info is in our hands (which is basically as fast it it gets).

I've seen some good photography from some of you guys in here, and hope to see more of it!

Feel free to send me a PM on this forum anytime.

Definitely will do! Feel free to send me an email anytime if there is a question on the forums that I may have missed and nobody else can answer it. I won;t always have the answer, but can usually find someone who has it if I don't :)

Email is jason(at)divephotoguide.com

I'll sign up for the feeds to the photo forums, if they work well I should be able to scan and answer regularly

PS: Nice SOL Soda shot BTW! ;)

The K20D is actually a nice camera, part of the issue with all these new SLR's is housing support. If the housing manufacturers don't support the models, and enough consumers don't buy the housings, so much for spare parts, repairs, etc.

That's why Nikon and Canon are dominating. Olympus is making a bit of buss these days and Sony is trying really hard. I'd say Pentax is in a distant 5th, but it's a shame because they are actually great cameras.

I can't believe it - a camera upgrade that reuses the housing!! What's next? Will the sun rise in the west, cats and dogs start getting along, Democrats speak at the Republican convention (oops, already happened - ha).

Really good news for me - since I have a 40D - hooray!!

Bah...stop bragging. I was thinking that upgrading my Rebel XTi, but since you don't have to buy the housing and I do, I almost feel as if I'm getting robbed! Guess I'll use my little XTi until digital is extinct.

Really amazing cameras out there. I thought my little d40 was the S*** until I used a d300. :(

Maybe the Ikelite D80 housing just needs new rear door for the D90 to fit? Fingers crossed.

You have entered the whirlpool of underwater photography - satisfaction with your current setup is a fleeting moment of time - I'm on my 5th camera since 2004:smiley5:. Seeing how good your first try was in PNG, you are hooked - so just accept the inevitable - LOL. So figure out how to slowly upgrade a piece at a time; so you don't have to really acknowledge how much money you have dropped on a hobby. And you're lucky - you can give your wife the hand me down's, and then she can't complain when you upgrade. What more can you ask??? My wife said it was her or diving - divorce should be final 18 September - never mess with an addict......
