I worked in hi-tech for to long. It's amazing what sales people will promise to make sales. Then the engineering dept has to either do it or we loose the sale. Then upper management wonders why schedules are late or other features are pushed back. It would be nice if the sales people shared their commissions when doing crap like this but of course you are lucky if they take you out for a drink.

I agree with you….. sales people will sell anything….. sometimes I wonder doesn’t even client look at what they are buying (software industry).

The salesman convinced someone pkg A couldn't do what the new package could....even though it was the same pkg.

I definitely know that salesman....

The company I work for actually charges sales teams for support that is considered the result of a problematic sale....you should see the scrambling when the salesman are told the billable hours are being paid from their commission pool, especially when others that get paid from the same pool find out who did what stupid thing to cost them money.

17 years as a Self-abuser...............translation.............Profe ssional educator in a inner city school..............translation............teacher .

On the bright side (and it was a good thing to do) I felt like the self abuse was a little to easy so I formed a Explorer troop of scuba scouts. Now imagine this, 12 kids of which 7 had never been out of the inner city on a weekend to the woods where they volunteered their time to do shore clean-up. 7 of them got excited enough and worked hard enough to trade out a couple of weekends of yard work and got certified. It was a good year and the self abuse wasn't so bad.

I'm currently working as a US Navy Master-at-Arms. Primary focus for my job depends on where my duty station is. Overall job description is to "provide physical security, anti-terrorisim, force protection and law enforcement for the Navy". In my current job (been here since January) at Combined Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, the focus is law enforcement. Traffic enforcement, domestics, sobriety checkpoints, all the usual things cops do. Essentially a Military Policeman. Of course we're also in charge of security for the base. I'm also a Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor as a collateral duty.

My previous command I was based out of Bahrain and was a Tactical Supervisor for Embarked Security Teams providing security for Military Sealift Command ships operating in the Middle East. After three summers in the middle east (and over 420 days underway), I decided it was time to leave and came to Japan. I negotiated for Japan mainly because of my interests in martial arts and because it was a place I have always wanted to come to.

Before that I was at Mobile Security where I was worked as the Training Department Leading Petty Officer and was a member of the Training Cadre.

I went in the Navy right out of high school and worked as a US Navy Photographer for ten years. Got out went to college and then worked for photographic services at Cape Canaveral for ten years and was a photo lab manager after that.

When I came back on active duty in late 2001 at age 43 (don't ask what happened, just had a "patriotic" moment ;-)), I decided that a career change was in order and they Navy was building up it's security forces at the time. I think my reasoning went something along the lines that if someone were shooting at me, I would rather shoot back with a gun than a camera :-))

In the future (I have four more years before I can retire from the military) I plan on being a scuba instructor and going back to photography. I'm looking at living somewhere that I can live off my military retirement (possibly somewhere in Southeast Asia (Philippines, Thailand, Malayasia) or the Pacific, maybe Guam or somewhere in the Marshall Islands (I have a friend who is married to someone from the Marshalls and he is always talking about how great it is). I'm also considering the Carribbean. I have another friend who lives in Costa Rica who is always talking about me coming there when I retire. I hear they have some great diving there, especially over on the Pacific side. I have four more years to think about it.

Well, it won't be "retire retire" :-) More of a semi-retirement. I will just need a little "supplemental" income, hence scuba instructor. The consensus from talking to people I know who are instructors seems to be that no one really gets rich as a scuba instructor, but they have a lot of fun. Perfect retirement job :-)

Don't know why. In some cases, your service protects more dwelling $$$$ than a fire department. The difference is that the benfeits of your service is largely unseen.

Those who believe the CFC's are killing the planet will have a great suprise as of today. No longer can I buy equipment that uses R-22, when they lose a compressor on their a/c, instead of a $1500 condensing unit, they will be paying me $5000+ to cool their house.

We're overburdened with carbon, and the climate is altering from the happenstance that lead to it's temporary stability. If we continue as we are, and looks like we're gonna, the climate will alter, due to shifting ocean currents and the removal of the ice caps, which are part of the engine driving the currents. We're already past the tipover point. We live on a dying planet.

I'm not sure that I totally agree with the overburden of carbon that you are pointing at. This planet that we are "killing" is made of carbon, be exhaust it, CO2. I guess that we all should just hold our breath for the next few hundred years and we would help cure the overburden of carbon.
