Sure...in the movies, the moray eel comes out of the hole and eats Lou Gosset Jr.'s head. Never seen that happen to a diver.

During underwater fight scenes in Sea Hunt, the diver's exhaust hose is cut, not the air source hose.

Anyone known a diver to get Narced the way the Navy divers did in Abyss? And then of course, they all go to the top and magically avoid any type of decompression..

the old 70's and 80's movies always make me laugh when the evil guy falls in the water at the end of the movie, about 100 ferocious sharks devour his body in seconds.
I would love to find that many sharks everytime I go diving.

The only movie I remember with something underwater was Lethal Weapon 2. Of course it was more holding your breath under water than anything

My LDS was the supporting shop for that movie!!

Here's one, today on TVland, there was an old Elvis movie about a Navy Diver (Elvis) who finds sunken treasure. Elvis foils the enemy by stuffing a compressor hose into the wetsuit of the other guy, sending him to the surface like a rocket.

After a few minutes, balloon guy is dressed in slacks back on the boat, looking cool.

Ya gotta love Elvis movies.

You mean you don't cut your hoses when you are finished diving and head to the surface? I knew I should have been suspicious of that during my OW class. Must just be a ploy by my LDS to sell more hoses. :)

I want the James Bond "Bail out bottle". It looks like a fountain pen with a small (2") CO2 style canister at each end. He did a 20 minute dive with those 2 teeny tiny cylinders. Wow. What would the working pressure of those tanks have to be? 1 million pounds? Lets see the gas would have to be compressed until it became a solid ;-) Hmmm

I always loved that middle scene, where Paul puts his hand on her butt, she whips around like she REALLY wasn't expecting that. Too funny.

when sean conery was Bond, James Bond... the fight scenes underwater were nothing like the ones you see in real life.

Some interesting stuff about Thunderball from the site movie-mistakes.com:

When Bond plus guard fall into the pool and have the shutters close over them, Largo gets the gate opened to allow sharks into the pool. When they were shooting this, there was supposed to be a sheet of glass in the water with the sharks on one side, and Sean on the other. Unfortunately, a couple of the sharks got round it and when Sean opens the door to go through to the other pool, he's nose to nose. At this point he's not acting. Watch his face for the genuine look of horror.

When James Bond is fighting underwater with an opponent, the opponent rips off James' diving mask (which is blue). Then James rips another mask off another opponent who is lying dead on the ocean floor. This dead opponent's mask is black. James puts on the black mask and then he turns around and the mask is blue again. (Ah, the power that is James Bond's to alter the Universe around him..)

During the underwater fight scene at the end, Largo does not have his eye patch on under his diving mask, but when he comes onto the Disco Volante he has his mask on his forehead with the eye patch underneath.

It's HPNS (High Pressure Nervous Syndrome) not narcosis. It is a condition brought on by high partial pressures of helium. You will learn about partial pressures in your nitrox class.

In the movie they were magically decompress by the aliens. They talk about it just after everyone exits the habitat. Lindsey said "We all should be dead now" or something like that.

I think that I just secured my geek status for the year.

Oh yeah, that's the worst part about fighting underwater... You move so much more quickly than when you're in air it's easy to over shoot your target... :)

Into the blue is my favorite movie. You have to judge movies by thier own merits. They can't all be judged by Shakesperian standards.
