Hello all,
I know a guy who always has one up on you. You know the kind, you have a tragic story and his is always worse. Anyhow, i was telling him about my bad experience when getting my OW cert here in PR and he started making some outrageous (to me) claims of his certification requirments. For example, his first open water dive was to 90ft, then he did a night dive at 130ft then...the list goes on. All this was for his entry level certification.

I am just curious, what do you NAUI divers do when starting out for your basic open water certification?

For my OW with NAUI, I did 4 dives and the max depth is 60 (legally). I busted that limit on one of the dives and ended up 62. I think you're supposed to do 5 dives because that's what my logbook shows...
We just had to demonstrate the basic skills we learning in the pool in one of the dives (mask removal, reg recovery, shared air ascent, neutral buoyancy) + boat entry and exit. I thought it was all very simple.

It just proves how full of crap this dude really is and i should quit talking to him; the guy i know with his "war stories" that is.

Stay far, far away from him in the water...

I think that one of the 5 NAUI dives is a surface dive (with just your snorkel and fins). You probably did that and just didn't realize it.
