Does anyone know if there are any remaining charters going out this year? The ones I've seen are all canceled due to the hurricane cleanup and such.

Both the Spree and Fling have canceled all remaining 2008 trips and both are in Galveston housing emergency workers. I don't know of any other commercial operators that go there.

I would like to do one of these trips as they look good and are pretty cheap. Does anyone know when they will resume trips out?

My brother, who works for the U.S Army Corpse of Engineers is currently working alongside FEMA at that location.

We spoke briefly Sunday the 19th, (it was his birthday) and his vivid description of the entire area leads me to believe that diving is done for the season.

Sorry folks, just calling it as I see it.

Last year it was $575 for the Spree which includes nitrox, and $475 for the Fling plus $65 for nitrox. I don't know if prices have been set yet for next year or if the falling fuel prices might lead to a price drop.

Spree schedule & pricing is here:
Spree Expeditions 2009 Schedule diving Flower Gardens and Dry Tortugas (http://www.spreeexpeditions.com/schedule2009.asp)

Fling schedule & pricing links are broken, I'd guess they are similar to the Spree.

Yes, sound high? That's dive life on the Texas coast. Flower Gardens is 110 miles offshore and that price covers everything but tips and bar tab. You have 7 possible dives.

As Defman posted, the weekend Spree price will be $625 and includes nitrox. The Fling is usually about $100 cheaper but charges an extra $65 for nitrox. The Spree is trying to be a bit more upscale, having refitted to carry 24 divers instead of 30.

The Spree will not be chartering for the Flower Gardens next year 09. They are making the permanent move to Florida chartering for the Dry Tortuga's.

The email they sent starts off like this.

It is with great excitement that Melanie and I announce we are moving the Spree to Key West full time for 2009. We will make this move in May after the 2009 hammerhead season in the Flower Gardens.

Like Devil Diver, the last email I received from them seemed to indicate the entire 2009 season would be in Florida.

I know that the weather can be a challenge during the spring, but one last trip on the Spree sounds good.

I really need to learn to read better. Here is the email (http://forum.scubatoys.com/trips-travel/15206-spree-expeditions-moving-florida-2009-a.html#post200798)that I received back in July/August. It says they will move after the Hammerhead season. I really thought they weren't in the FG at all in 2009.

Alas, good news.
