i'm currently using the above DSLR and i'm seriously thinking about going into underwater photography, but the high cost of the equipment is proving to be a really deterrent... so i'm asking you guys here with the same camera what kind of housing/strobe/arms you have invested in and roughly the cost as well, and perhaps your experience with your set up so i can make a informed decision... regards

I don't have the above set-up but I do know ST was selling a housing for a rebel XT for about $500 off.

that's a steal but unfortunately it's not suitable for my XTi...

I'm 2 months late to the party, but having bit the bullet on a housing/strobes/lenses etc. for the XTi, I can give you a bit of a break down for what you'll be looking at.

Housing: $1200.00 for an Ikelite
Strobes: $800.00 per for DS125s with standard arms ($1600.00 for a pair)
Sync cord: $160.00 for duals (plan on having a back up...$320.00)
WA lens: $500.00 for a Tokina 10-17mm FE
Macro lens: $600.00 for a Canon 100mm macro
8" Dome port + body assembly" $475.00 (8" dome mandatory for 10mm)
6" flat port w/manual focus: $150.00

Marine visions threw in the pelican case for the UW housing/strobes but that's about another $200.00

Add in the Lowepro back pack ($160.00) used to carry on the camera body/lenses and laptop you'll want to carry on and the total is roughly around $5000.00.
