I'm trying to ID this red fish we found on a shore dive at Scuba Club Cozumel. Any ideas? I don't think we saw another one like it the rest of the trip.

Thank you! I have the Reef Identification set ordered it just didn't arrive yet. I have two more and then I'll wait for the book for the rest of my questions.

1. Juvenile Drum?
2. I think this is an urchin, but not sure what kind.

the urchin is a pencil urchin, we had one in the marine lab. As for the fish, it kind of looks like a juvenile spotted drum, but the dorsal fin doesn't look as familiar so I wouldn't be able to help you with that one.

The fish is either a Highhat or a Cubbyu. The juvenile Highhat has a bar between the eyes where the juvenile Cubbyu have an oval marking.

Hard to determine from the view of the photo......

Enjoy the Reef ID set, they have a great new DVD ID/Survey course as well.

I think it's a cubbyu, but have to look into it a bit more. The Reef Identification set arrived yesterday. I had a chance to quickly glance through it last night and they look fantastic. I can't wait to dig in.

The DVD looks interesting.
