If I saw that beast, you would have to redefine the term "quick ascent."

This is definately a very wierd sea creature! Looks like a string mop head jelly fish of sorts...I would not want to run into him. Thanks for sharing.

It's a siphonophore; bio luminescent colony of several individual animals acting in unison for survival.

You can learn more at Siphonophorae - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siphonophora) .

There are pictures at siphonophore - Google Image Search (http://images.google.com/images?q=siphonophore&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title)

My understanding was that the video was shot at approximately 770 meters (2526.25 feet). I can't imagine what it takes just to get down TO that depth, much less ascend from it.

Sorry. I just had to get that out of my head and into someone else's.

That's why those DMs in the carribean tell you that after 80 feet I'm not chasing you. They're afraid of what learks in the dark.
