View Full Version : Monthly give Away!

ScubaToys Larry

Well, in case the 10 bucks for 10 posts... or 50 bucks for 250 posts is not enough, we thought we'd start a new game!

Every month we will be giving away a prize to the best thread started that month. And the prize will go to the threads original poster. Now, what makes the best?? Can't exactly tell you - but we have a formula. It is based on number of posts - but repeated posting by the original poster actually hurts the thread, reads are factored in, but not as important as other aspects, we have a panel to vote, plus some other criteria.

We just don't want anyone to make "manufactured" threads to match our formula.. so just like Dr. Pepper and Coke - our formula is a secret!

This month the prize will be a Bare Progressive Stretch Wetsuit (http://scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?product_id=Bare3mProgressiveMens) - full 3 mil. Your choice of color, size and gender. If you want all the info on the suit, check it out on our pages: http://scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?product_id=Bare3mProgressiveMens.
And you can stop back here to see which of our lucky members won at the end of the month... it may be you! Winners will be posted in this thread, and they must contact us within 14 days to claim their prize.

So keep posting up new threads and best of luck!

Another month has come to an end. And we have a new winner. This months post is not however a post... it's a series of posts.

We'd like to thank JWDizney for sharing in multiple posts his experience in going through the open water class. Based on the huge number of views, posts, and positive responses, I know this thread has helped a lot of folks that were starting their class, get a true feel for what was going to come, and put them a bit at ease if they had any difficulty.

So for sharing the story, and the "Overcoming my Fears" series, we award the Tilos bag to this thread:

WOW!! That's pretty AWESOME!! thanks Larry and ScubaToys but most of all, thanks to everyone who supported me through my transition from landlubber "showers no baths" water phobe to a certified scuba diver! this forum and its members have really been an inspiration and essential to my overcoming probably the greatest fear i've ever had. you guys are incredible! I also know some aspiring water-phobes i've met along the way that are heading toward their own journeys, and I have been happy to share my experiences with them.. believe me guys, If I can do it, ANYONE can... (you too, ScubaWidow:smiley2:)......

Larry and Joe, you do a great thing here! I believe in reaping what we sow, and I hope your business is successful by leaps and bounds! it's nice to find world class service in an industry that can easily be conniving and cut-throat!

Well, now that I can take that bag off my buy list.(i needed one, by the way, for our trip to disney dive quest).... and i'm inches away from my 250 post.... guess i'll go back to drooling again..... kinda got my eye on that camera.....and for some reason, there's something else keeps popping into my head... Oceanic Datamask

Thanks again guys!!!:mc05:

Larry, it takes someone with god like powers to make one person happy, while upsetting hundreds of others, and still sleep well at night....meer mortals should be stay away from even pretending to have that power.

So that leaves the decision in the hands of Joe and Larry...while we all bow down at your feet.

I really liked the initial post.. but when people offered to loan him some gear, and he was not interested in diving unless he had his own, specific gear for the Divemaster program... it sounded more about the Divemaster program and less about diving. Still, a lot of people liked the idea behind it.

Thanks! Im really glad a lot of people found it helpful as that was the sole purpose of the thread! I didn't want to accept gear from other people as it is a personal thing with me I don't like to accept handouts and like to earn what I want and need. It's how I was raised to work hard for what you want and don't settle for less :) For me, the divemaster program is ALL ABOUT diving! I am getting to dive with all kinds of new people AND being able to help them out! The divemaster position is just a perk!

I have a vote in mind...

http://forum.scubatoys.com/scuba-stories-comments-questions-dont-fit-elsewhere/6930-what-your-job-real-life.html

With hundreds of replies and thousands of views. I guess, this one deserves it. Knowing people do for a living. Interesting....

I second emotion on " What is your job in real life " . Kind of like story of individuals how they strive to be themselves. I vote on this...

We are soliciting additional entries for the Dec thread of the month. As per usual we are looking for scuba related threads to add to the nominations. Keep those ideas coming.

Being new to the board and diving I loved a-lot of them. But I have to argeee with the "What is your real job?". It really shows that this sport draws people of all ages and walks of life.

My vote for this month's best thread is Puffer's guide to underwater photography. I can't tell you how many times I have referred to this thread. It should probably have a sticky.

http://forum.scubatoys.com/uw-photo-101/8544-puffers-guide-getting-started.html

I'm not sure if you can win this contest twice, so if you can't, my next choice is any thread that I started.

I HOPE you CAN win twice, so I'm voting for Puffer too!.. and my vote includes a necessary mention for Aussie and his contributions to the topic both in Puffer's thread and his own about UW Photography... good usable info from both these guys!:smiley20::smiley20:
