I will be in the Niagara Falls area from 8-1 thru 8-6 and I have heard there are some river drift dives. Anyone have contact info for a charter that runs trips? distance from the Falls themselves (where I am staying) or any lake ontario charters that run close by? (I am unfamiliar with the area, first time going up north)

are you referring to the drift diving or lake diving? (by the time you mention I am assuming drift diving the falls)

My first thought was the downstream portion of the river and I found myself thinking about how fast and turbulent the water was and "No way I would dive it!" But then there's the seaway and the lakes all around too.

yes it's drift diving- way above the falls.....and it's not turbelant at all
you have a float with a line......if you find something come up your line and put it in your basket
it's super fun- a timed dive............the current is not as strong on the surface

What kind of "stuff" do you find?

last time I found an old faygo bottle- green glass with the diamond shaped etching in it, and an old piece of china
another diver found an old cobalt blue medicine bottle
see- they didn't have regular trash service there in the past- so there are many things still buried (at least that's what the boat captain said)

Sounds interesting. Hopefully I can get up that way one of these days. I take it this is closer to Lake Erie?

yes- about 3 hours from Erie PA- I guess you can dive from the NY side too, and you can do it as a shore dive

most fun you can have without doing a thing, just jump in drop down to about 25 ft and fly on the current for an hour

I lived not far from there, well couple hours in Fulton NY, but I thought about diving as I visited Dad a couple weeks ago, even spent the rainy night in Erie PA. For some reason almost every motel was booked that weekend, finally found one at 11 PM. So then I was wiped come morning and just finished driving to Minetto which is outside Fulton. I really wanted to dive bad.

The real question is, does anybody even go to the NY side of Niagara falls?
