I'm looking for a HP steel 80, with DIN. I've found a used one at a local store I'm just getting to know, but like so far. Its used, and for ~$299.

Looking on the web, I've seen steel 100's and such for about $350 and up.

Is a used HP steel 80, a good price at $299?

ScubaToy's sells them new for $315 shipped.

I don't think it's a great deal. $150 or so would be a good deal, but I probably wouldn't buy that size in the first place. I love steel HP100's myself and think they're nearly the perfect cylinder. 80's are very squat and can make your buoyancy shift towards the head pretty far. Good for some, and for a tall person like me not so good. OK, I'm 6' and that's not that tall.

It all depends, what does your local market say? ST has a steel 80-new for $295 but I believe shipping is around $35. What is the age of the tank? what does it look like? If the shipping is correct, a new 80 would cost $30 more than that one. Is $30 a good justification for new vs. used?

Call Joe at ST, he gave me an awsome deal on a HP100, I won't say the price but let's just say it was WAY below anybody else. I picked mine up but I think they give free shipping on orders over $50.

The free shipping on orders over $50 does not include tanks. I think it is $35 per tank and not the $50 I posted earlier. But definitely give Joe a call.

'Handling' is $20 for tanks.

Also, he hints at the used tank being for sale at a dive shop, which would mean paying tax on it. Since it's Cali, let's say 9% tax rate.

$327 Total

Which is $12 over what Scuba Toys charges for a new cylinder.

I bought my first steel 100 used only 2 years old for 200.

I paid $125 for one, and $75 for the second steel HP100, true HP, 3500 psi cylinders made by PST. It all depends on where you're at as to what they're worth.

A buddy bought one for $50, I'm so jealous of that.

I would take into consideration when the last hydro and visual test was when you value a used tank. Visuals I think are $15 and hydrostatic tests are around $50 or so.
