View Full Version : What's a normal SAC in heavy current?

I did an SAC calculator today and it came out to 1.3. That seems crazy high, but I was diving in the St. Clair River in Port Huron, MI and the current was kicking pretty good. I was drifting a lot, but did spend Maybe 20% of the dive fighting the 4-6 Knot current. I brought my HP120 tank down from 3500 to 500 psi in about 43 minutes. 37 ffw max with 23 ffw average depths.

I'm normally a bit of a hoover, but is that ridiculous?

Number one: you had a good, safe dive and that is, I think, the most important thing.

OK, I'm no expert, but:
Based on the conversations I've had, you can reasonably expect your SAC to double under strenuous/stressfull conditions. So, if your SAC is usually in the 0.6 range, maybe it is not 'ridiculously' high.

If it makes you feel better I am sure mine would have been worse. I am still a virtual vaccuum cleaner under the best of circumstances.
