It looks like a great deal. But only you can decide. I wouldn't worry too much about "If it's the perfect setup". It's all top of the line (OK, I don't know about the Octo). If you are like most divers I know, you'll end up with 2 or 3 more regs, several tanks, and who knows what else. I have about 10 things on my list right now, and I have all the toys (according to my wife).

i think this will be my choice then is the reg any good?

the reg is awesome (like the rest of Oceanics stuff)
it's a top reg, from a great company paired with a good octo (use it from left/right upside up/down and sideways) and a great BC that alot of people like.
the price is incredible, price it out and see the deal!
all good stuff, from big companies that have a good fan base (i dont know if thats the right term... but im a fan of zeagle)

here are the individual prices...
BC 400
console/comp 300
reg 380
octo 75 bux
free reg bag PRICELESS!! (sorry, had to do it.)

thats about 1150$ worth of stuff, so you get a great deal there.

I never dove with this reg, but I have a Delta IV and have been very happy with it. Not sure exactly what the differences are, the only cosmetic one is the swivel.

THat computer looks very similar to my Oceanic VEO250.

And the brigade is a nice BC. Someday I would like to try one, a back inflate vs my jacket.

Looks like a good package to me. I spent about the same, skimped a little on the BC from yours, but bought the next up BC for about the same price.

Nice setup, chewy. Get it done and let us know how you go on your first dive.

It's a nice package. We have 3/4 of the items listed in it. Love the back inflate Brigade. I don't miss the torso squeeze at all! We have also been very pleased with the computer and octo. The octo can be used in any direction and that was a chief reason why we bought it. The computer has been great...does everything I want it to and was priced right. We have a different reg but we use everything else and have been extremely happy with it all.

hopefully in two weeks this package will still be around and ill go ahead and pick one up i still get 10 percent off of that price correct?

That package has been around for awhile, so no worries. Besides, even if it "disappears", ST will recreate it for you I bet.

The only thing I would do is swap out that octo. I had one like it and I didn't like the way it would breathe at depth, in addition to it having a tendency to breathe wet as well. I got rid of it and got a matching octo to my primary. YMMV however.

its a good start ready to get wet and enjoy yourself. maybe post some more and get another 50 cert before they change their minds !!!( i know they won;t)

I'm trying to get to 250 what octo should I get instead? the oceanic alpha 8? or something else?

georoc01
09-01-2007, 16:53
I have an Alpha 8 and am happy with it. Of course, Its not like I use my Octo too much, other than for safety drills.

And speaking of which, don't forget the little things..A whistle and sausage for the BCD, and a connector for your Octo and your console. I also bought a hanger for the BCD.

really packs down small, and can be clipped on to your bc, or stuck in a pocket.

Safe-a-dive, extra junk that is cheap and could end your dive.. I picked this one cause it comes with Larry's tool-o-matic, and has a nice waterproof toolkit.

It makes noise, so people know where you is :)

After you get those, you might want to look into getting a nice bag to hold it all in :)

The package should still be up. It was up back when we were shopping for our main gear last winter...I think it's a standard package for them. Yes, you get your 10% and you can also use the forum gift certificates in conjuction with the 10%.

I purchased this package last week and had a chance to dive it this weekend. I switched out the Octo for an Oceanic Slimline2, just to have all Oceanic regs.
I LOVE IT.
The computer is very easy to understand & get used to.

Would recomend this gear to anyone. :smiley20:

That would add about $80, but then take 10% off the whole package for being a board member...

It's a nice package. Only you can decide it it's right for you. The viper octo is nice streamlined and reliable.
