It seems that we all have a cat, dog or both. Do any of you have any exotic pets?

We had an umbrella cockatoo, that was just the best. She was a feather plucker, but really smart. We would love to get another one but, we like to go home to see the grandbaby and it is hard to find a birdsitter for that size bird.

I want a cat, but apparently you have to feed them and water them and like... clean them.

That and they stink (according to the wife).
I want a salt-water tank :/

I knew that cockatoos lived a long time I didn't realize that cockatiels did also.

I want a kitty bad... but my wife and I don't think we can have one. I'm allergic(which I can get cured apparently) but frankly I'm afraid of all the hair/etc to clean up.

Mine was a little prankster..

She could do crazy ninja flips off the wall and all kinds of cool stuff I wish I could do...

Those suckers can jump too..Mine could jump up on the ceiling fan from the ground and also liked to hide on the door and "pounce attack" me whenever I walked in the room :smiley36:

Spanky is a strapping young lad. He just bumped up to small rats, and by the time that package of 15 is gone he might be ready for mediums. He is over 2 feet but since snakes have this thing about not laying straight and still, he is very heard to measure. That picture was taken right after a shed so he is all fresh and handsome looking.

My husband has a long standing fear of snakes and let me get one anyway because he knew I had been fascinated by them for years and had wanted one for a long time. I was surprised when he gave me his blessing, but he answered that he wanted me to be happy, and knew this would make me happy. It might have even helped ease some of his fears little bit...he has watched him eat and even worked up the nerve to touch him once!

Yet more reasons that I am married to the best man ever!!

Okay .... I have 5 cats, 3 turtles (RES), 1 cockateil & 8 chinchillas.

A slight inconvenience when I want to go away but I wouldn't be without them.

There's a few other animals I would love to have as pets but NZ is quite tough on some things - ferrets are now banned (owners at the time the ban came into place can keep there neutered ferret, but once gone that's it), chinchillas must be neutered down South and importing unique colours is only allowed from the UK and is full of red tape, tortoises are very rare - need to know the right person - I believe (but could be wrong) that it is now illegal to bring any more reptiles into the country which makes them rarer. Snakes are a no-no. We are supposedly a snake free country apart from zoos. I could possibly get a lizard - dragon or blue tongue - easily enough but there's large setup costs and I think I have enough at the moment!

LOL, yeah they have quite the personality! She actually tries to bite my dachshunds when they stick their nose's in her cage :smiley36: She is fearless!

I have 2+n chinchillas (boy is epileptic and can't be fixed, so they keep popping out one a year) who live with a friend in the US. Glad to see all the chinchie owners here. What do people do to limit the dust in the air? I hadn't realised how bad it was until I moved away from them.

My last roommate had a dog, also, and I leased a horse.

I have an air purifier, and I vaccum A LOT!
As for chinnie poop and hay that gets tossed out? Oh boy... you probably will get grossed out. LOL My dachshunds "help" me clean up when I don't vaccum. They really must think the chinnie poops are little tootsie rolls b/c they are like a magnet to them! I have a little hand help vaccum for quick pick up and a nice big powerful one. And somehow, they still get their "prizes" every once in a while :smiley5:

I know that if you add a teaspoon of meat tenderizer to your dog's food it will stop them from eat dog feces it makes it taste bitter. You could check the your vet. to see if you could do that for your chinchilla so the dogs won't eat its feces, that is if you want them to stop doing that.
