What is an average SAC for a new diver and an experienced diver? That is highly dependent upon the diver's individual physical fitness and diving conditions (cold versus warm water, etc). And, as you allude, experience will improve one's SAC rate.

A good starting average is about .50 - .75 cu ft/min. As Vercingetorix mentioned. experience, comfort, temp, workload, etc will effect it.

this should make you calculations more consistent and easer to do. this is a SAC rate calculator (http://www.spearfishing.org/bruces_tips/java/sac.html).
