Do any of you have any good ideas what to do with tanks that are deemed bad? We are making some lamps and thinking about making a bank to go into our scuba room. We are thinking about making a mailbox too.

My preference is to sell them, and use the money towards new tanks. Cause AL aint gettin any cheaper!

I think the lamp idea is GREAT!

Put a door in the side of it and use it as a closet to store the air you're not currently using! :smiley36:

I have one in my garage that a guy cut a length wise chunk out of the side of it and welded it to the bottom to make a stand out of it, like a plant holder. It's pretty cool. We also have a guy cut tanks in half and make bells out of them. He paints them in dive flag colors.

Perhaps legs of a coffee table or with the right amount of hardware and cement a boat anchor. With enough of them they cold be painted like bowling pins or maybe that could be the "Trick" at Holloween-I would hate to be that kid.

I like the ScubaBank idea. Just like a piggy bank, only you can't drop this one on the floor and crack it open.

wind chime-cut off the bottom, hang by valve or neck opening and make sure its not above any place people walk.

trashcan- cut off top, insert trash bag

lamp

tap the bottom, fill with beer- self explanatory

table legs as mentioned before

or just paint it and use it as a huge vase

and if you managed to fill that tank with change, you could probably buy a few new ones

I guess I am in the recycle mode, if they are scrap then sell them for scrap.

To answer a question with a question, why types of tools and skills do you have? If you can cut and weld alum, then you have a LOT of options. If you are attempting to use the tank without modification, then not so much.

We have already made one lamp, and are seriously considering the bank.

Divers may get some enjoyment out of seeing that sort of Lamp. My wife OTOH... I'm thinking not so much. Even as a diver, yellow tank, stickers, looks like it would go well in a college dorm room.. or a bar area.. :smilie40:

The lamp is pretty cool... especially if you have stickers from past trips
