My first reaction after starting my OW course (with my youngest son as a graduation present) last spring was -- why the heck did I wait so long to do this? I had thought about it since I was in my 20's (now almost 50), but never did make the jump. I sometimes think about how many places where I settled for snorkling, but I could've been diving. I've always loved being in the water and especially underwater.

Being about 220 miles plus a long boat ride away from any decent ocean diving (Flower Gardens is the closest), I've resigned myself to being mostly a "vacation diver". So far, we've done a couple of 2-tank dives at Kona, HI, including the night manta dive (which was amazing). I've agreed to take the wife on our first ever cruise next monthhttp://www.scubaboard.com/images/smilies/Oversized/Kissy.gif. Of course, having stop-overs at Roatan and Cozumel had no influence at all over my decision http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/images/smilies/More%20Smiles/eyebrow.gif (none, really). She's happy to lay on the beach or by the poolhttp://www.scubaboard.com/forums/images/smilies/sleeping2.gif whilst I go diving.

I'm hoping to get the chance to do a dedicated dive trip sometime during the next year or so. We have a couple of local dive shops that put together about 2-3 big trips and several small trips each year.

Groovy. We're not necessarily near a lot of good diving water, but we're near a lot of good diving company.
