that is intense. I'd like to say I would try everything once in the Ocean, BUT, I don't know about that.

Leave it to the French
Well its not very smart, I can't say that I would be up for that. Looking at great whites is cool and all, but it seems to be a bad idea to associate divers with food. I'm sure that they had to bait it to bring it in.

I believe the divers are from RSA.

Those are some great videos. The french guy is a little off his rocker.

Yeah they are SA divers, Andre Hartman and Michale Rutzik do this often.

Its not as daredevil as it looks, they are very picky about when they do it, good vis (very rare in Gansbaai) and with an animal that looks relaxed.

They both have many years of experience diving with white sharks, if you can catch a documentary about a bunch of US film makers that bring Andre to Guadalupe to dive with the white sharks there. You will see how strict he is.

Yeah, I totally agree baiting for sharks to dive with is a bad idea, however this is not a baited situation. Swimming with Great Whites in this manner requires that the shark be in a relaxed mood and not in a "feeding" mood, which chum and bait in the water would obviously produce.

But I can't say I share most of the sentiment that you guys have, though I completely know where it comes from. :) Although I would not do this because I lack the nerve, I WANT to do this. And I think we have a misconception about this shark and its image. It is not cruising around looking for humans to eat. It does command respect, some fear, and the like, but not to the overwhelming degree that we currently have. These divers are not the only ones diving with Great Whites. I've seen others, as I'm sure some of you have. Proves that it can be done, I just don't have the guts to do it or the knowledge of the creatures habits and personality to know the right time to do it.

Oh yes, one more thing. I'm not positive about this so it is just speculation but also notice that he is free diving and not using a tank, so no added electric current/field for the shark to investigate or be aroused by. I'm not sure how much metal/aluminum is in the spear but it doesn't appear to be too much. Just a thought, as sharks are keen on "seeing" electrically. The reason why they bump into cages and boat engines and such the way that they do, not only to investigate it, but because the electric field and current it gives off seems to throw them.

The shark must have been full, not to have not taken a curiosity bite.

One of my DMs that has thousands of dives under his belt told me that you can read a sharks intentions by its' attitude, the same way you can tell if a strange dog is likely to bite. I understand the theory but I'm sure not ready to put it to the test like these guys do.

yeah..........well.........That poor chap in the water, I'm thinking at birth, was deprived of the gray matter that most of us received. Or maybe he has to use a 5 gallon bucket to carry his industrial sized balls in.

I agree. All animals are unpredictable I dont care who you are and how many dives you have. Just ask Seefried and Roy.
