There is a steel tank for sale here locally. Here is the info on the tank:

DOT= Department of Transportation 3aa = Steel 2250 = max PSI

63252 = Tank SN

Dacor = Manufacture

10734 = April 10 1973 (I think)

Can anyone tell me about the tank?

Steel tanks can last forever but on one made in 1973 I would want a current hydro. I also want a look inside or a current VIP.

Even if everything checked out price would be a big factor.

There's a White Stag reg set and the tank for $150. I figured I would try to talk him down some.

Sounds like a steel 72, good tank.

Steel 72's can be a good tank, if it has the older 7/8 tapered valve on it, they can be harder to find if you want to replace the J-valve (if it has not already been replaced). If the J-Valve is in good shape though, there is not REAL NEED to replace it. I personally would but not becuause a J-Valve is not functional, I would just want a newer valve. Then you have to figure in the cost of Hydro and Viz, and maybe a new valve. I have 3 72's. The first 2 I bought for $75 each with a 1 year old hyrdo and 1 year old Thermo Pro valves. I could barely get the valves and hydros for that. The thrid one that I have is out of hydro but I would guess it would pass, but I am not going to mess with it. It has the old tapered threads so it is going to be turned into a piggy bank for the kids...

Made in 1973 it is 3/4 straight O ring thread. 1/2" taper pipe tanks were gone by the early 60's. Nothing wrong with the 1/2" taper thread tanks, I have a couple still going, one is 53 years old and I bought it new..

The White Stag Reg for the most part is a museum piece. If you want to dive it (they were pretty good rags in the day) get with some of the vintage gear divers about getting service.

Like the other's here, it sounds like a steel 72. Get a hydro and vis and go for it.

I have 5 steel 72's and all are in great shape. All I bought used all I bought under the condition that they pass VIP and hydro (at my expense). I have payed as little as $35 and as much as $75 (each for a mint set of 72's). If it passes (it should) get it! If you dont want it, let me know and Ill take it!

Thanks for the correction about the valve thread size. 7/8 is the older High Pressure tank valve size and it is not Tappered.
