I was there this past Sunday, 75 temp, vis was about 15-20 ft. I think they are sinking some golf balls for prizes this weekend, so I am sure vis will be alot less.

Any updates on Athens?
I'm hoping to dive there tomorrow.
Is it like CSSP where a wetsuit is necessary? Diveskin? Anything special I should see first?
Too bad I can't make it for the weekend treasure hunt.
Thanks!!

I would say no wetsuit, especially since it has been extremely hot. It is not deep at all.

How is Athens? I was going to make a trip over there with a buddy while in the Dallas area, but I've heard some reports from a couple of people that were not impressed at all. They are not deep divers either as they prefer to stay above the TC, so it wasn't just the depth they did not like.

I'd be up for checking it out if it isn't as bad as they made it out to be.

According to their web page, on Aug. 6 vis was 8-12 feet and temp on bottom was 82. They are having a treasure hunt this weekend, should be fun. I am going.

Thanks, Platypusman.

TRACI--Much appreciated. Got both skin and 3 mil packed.

I know it is shallow, but that's all right. I'm doing Dive Across Texas, and Athens is close.
If I didn't race on Saturday night, I would be there for the hunt!

I've done all my diving at Clear Springs just because I know it. I've heard there used to be a problem with the water in Athens being treated with something that was harmful to dive gear; is this still the case or was that just a rumor?

I've heard that too,and I have also heard it had something to do with the tannic acid from the trees. I was at Blue Lagoon about a month ago and the water was the same blue green as Athens, my brother-in-law went to school at Huntsville about 30 years ago, he said the quarry was a good weekend hangout well before they made it a scuba park and the water was the same as it is now. I'm not sure who is right.

I was there on Saturday. The PH is high in water so no wild life. I am not sure about them treating the water. I rinse all me gear off good just like I always do after any dive. The lake is only 8 acres but there are many things to look at. The staff and people were very friendly. I would recommend going.
