To anyone who has visited Kihei, Maui and had the pleasure of consuming ribs that were sold pre-marinated to take home for the grill by Azeka's Family Store which closed a few years ago.

I have a timeshare in Kihei, and thus became acquainted with the Azeka Family Store.
"The marinade recipe reproduced herewith was obtained from Mama-San Azeka.
MAMA-SAN AZEKA'S RIBS :

Serves six
5 pounds beef short ribs (Korean style/ cut crossways)
3/4 cup shoyu (soy sauce)
1/3 cup dark sesame oil
1/4 cup raw cane sugar
3 green onions, chopped (Maui onions, of course)
1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
1 tablespoon thinly sliced fresh ginger root
"Combine the final six ingredients and soak the ribs in this prescription for a minimum of 24 hours and then grill and serve with a side of rice.

Probably the same place you get Maui onions.:smiley36: You can get raw sugar at health nut stores.

Wow.. am I hungry for ribs!

This new forum rocks!

Wife says you can get raw cane sugar at most groceries.. she says they sell even here at the mini wall Mart.

I figured Vidalia's would work...probably as good.

These are the best ribs I've ever had, it took 3 years to get the recipe.
