This was at the dealership I work at a couple of weeks ago. We were having a party to celebrate new ownership and Audi let us borrow this for the event.

Of course following Audi's rules nobody here took it for a spin..:smiley2:

They are very limited production, and we had a bit of a bidding war over the two that we are getting this year....

We had 3 more people put down deposits for the ones we are getting next year

Rich boys and their toys...:smiley29:

Just how pricey is that little toy?

creggur
09-11-2007, 11:03
Right around $120,000 plus tax, tag etc.. We haven't gotten exact pricing on them yet, but the first ones we get will probably go for over $130,000. We have 4 people fighting over the first two that we will get in November...

I just checked for fun, a front brake job is gonna run around $2,000. Heck there's a 2 page long procedure in the tech manual just to check the oil level in the engine. How about paying $115.00 just to get your oil level checked?!?!?:smiley29:

A buck thirty each, guess I'll only take two then :)

Two pages just to check the oil? I'm not even going to inquire about the number of pages needed to explain how to change the oil.

creggur
09-11-2007, 11:19
Yeah just to check the oil.

Funniest line I've ever read in an owners manual..."While an oil level measuring device is located in the engine compartment, it is to only be used by certified service personel":smilie39:

As Henry Ford said years ago "If I could corner the repair market I will give the cars away". I could buy a new house for the cost of that car. And spend to weeks in Coz for the price of a brake job.

I wonder what just required maintenance on one of those babies costs for a year? "Sir, we changed your oil, checked all your fluid levels and also made a few adjustments to your investment portfolio..."

Most people that buy cars like that really don't care.. They usually just come in, toss you the keys, and tell you what time they want to pick it up.
Or
We go pick the car up, do the service, and deliver it back to them. They aren't worried about the price of the service, they just want their toy to be there when they want, so they can play with it.

Well if you make money like that, the usual Time=Money is a way of life for them.

That's ok. I don't need a $130k car that I probably couldn't even fit 3 air tanks + all my diving stuff into. My $25k car can do that. :smiley36:

Never mind tanks, I probably couldn't fit in that car at 6'5"

You could fit into my Mini Cooper; I've had a guy 6'6" say he was comfortable in it. :smiley20:

I'm 6' and I could back the drivers seat up far enough that I couldn't touch the pedals. It's mid-engine so there is plenty of leg room, and the steering wheel telescopes out so you can set it up just right...

That certainly is a nice looking car, but I would never trade it for my Jeep. How would I ever get through a mud hole in that thing!

From Audiusa.com:

Unladenweight
3605 lbs

You'd sink down into the mud quicker than it takes the R8 to get to 60mph (4.4 sec btw) because it's so heavy! :smiley36:

That thing is close to 1k lbs heavier than my car, and I tried going mudding last week.... I still haven't gotten all the mud/dirt off of Edgar yet because he sunk like a stone! :smiley19:

In 4.4 seconds you should be able to get to 60 before you hit the mud and just skim right accross the top...:smiley2:

Maybe in 2009 when we get the 10 cylinder R10's it will work better..:smiley20:

If they can afford the car, they can afford the work on it. If not, they shouldn't have bought the car. :)

You'd be surprised how many people stretch themselves thin by paying 60-80k for a car, and then freak out when a 5k mile service is $200.00. We've had tons of cars towed in after a Jiffy Lube service with an empty transmission and 12 quarts of oil in the engine. It then costs them $400.00 for us to straighten out that problem, and can easily run into the thousands if something is damaged.....

I own a Porsche and the plug wires alone are $300.00. Getting the oil changed is $250.00! SO I feel the pain! But it is worth every penny when you get it out on the track or the open road that you are pretty sure has no cops!!

Sadly...or not...with less than $20K total in my bike, it will hurt the new owners feelings badly.

Someone I know recently bought a Corvette Z06 and ended up selling the car at a loss because he couldn't afford new tires for it after he wore them down.

That's a nice looking car by the way.

Are serious that you have 2 pages to check the oil, not changing or fixing a thing?

Do they normally right things out in a rediculous manner on other Audis?

That's for sure. I met a guy who worked at the Exotic Car showroom over at Cesaer's Palace in Vegas and we were chatting just about that. I asked them about test drives, and he said that most of their buyers make the purchases without even seeing the car beforehand, let alone driving it.

Bidding wars are great.

Reminds me of the year in the NBA where 4 players had a clause in thier contract stipulating they would be one of the 3 highest paid players...think about it
