Has anyone ever been to Forty Fathom Grotto in Ocala, Florida? I patrol the area and pass by every night and it looks pretty interesting. Thanks for the comments.

I'd like to, but not open to the public.

Although 40 Fathom Grotto is primarily a diver-training facility and not open to the general diving public, there are nevertheless four different ways you can dive with us, including:

You can do it, just have to pay for a "guide"

I think its around $100 for two tank guided dive there. One deep dive (100-130 depending on experience) and then one shallow dive. It does look like a very interesting site and Id be up for it! (Preferably with more experienced divers as I myself would like to go to the full 130ft they offer) But Id do it for just the 100ft as well :)

I just noticed if we get 3+ of us, it will be $200 flat rate. So @ 3 people it will only be $66! Maybe we could get a couple more (no more then 6?)

I dove there a few times earlier in the year for my tec class. The vis was very bad, it was pitch black. There's some interesting stuff in there but you don't see it until you're on it. We saw a couple of boats, a plane, a motor bike and a van. We did dives as deep as 170. It's a good place to practice diving in low vis and deep diving. I'm hoping to become a guide there soon.

i might back out, we have the same thing here just 20minutes for me, vis is low and it is pitch black and until your on top of something you can't see it. but the depth is only 110 120 ft so i might be convinced if we go deeper. but nothing too tech for me

I'm prolly going to head out there this friday and do that 2 tank guided dive to the 100-130 level.
Just got off the phone with the Manager (Harry) and seeing how it's a guided dive you can show up solo.

I need the deeper dive practice/experience anyway.

Paradise Springs near Ocala was perfect last Saturday. We got there early and the four of us had the place to ourselves. You go down to 99 feet. Beat the crowds, as inexperienced divers tend to silt it up.

Cost = $30 each.

Went to Boynton Beach yesterday and did 2 tank boat dive.
So, not going to 40Fathom today. Getting up at 3:30am to dive 3 1/2 hours pretty much kicked my butt. So, I'm blowing off the 40 today.

Boynton Beach was prolly a lot nicer anyway. 72' and vis was about 60'
Saw 2 nurse sharks, 1 reef shark and couple green morray eels.

I drove by the Grotto the other night and talked with a guide there. They were going on a night dive for an advanced class. He showed me around some and it looked pretty nice. They have a lot of construction going on there.

I vote that we get 4-6 people from here to set up a carved in stone date to do this so we can drive the price down..

For me it'd have to be a fri-sunday..
