just a general question

let me start by saying I'm very much of a beginner in uw photo

I've been having difficulty trying to adjust the settings on my camera while diving.

unless the subject is standing still (very rare) it seems that adjusting the settings between shots is next to impossible to do.

here is the question

would it be better to make one adjustment at the beginning of the dive for light level and distance and just leave it alone instead of trying to make adjustments throughout the dive?

What camera and strobe are you using?

yes, definitely would be helpful to know what camera you are using, and what mode you are shooting in...

even in full manual, with a manual strobe, though, you should be able to get a feel for what settings work in what scenarios, ie - wide angle, macro, general shots... depth, distances, murkiness of water, and even if the sun is out or not can change what settings work best in which scenario, however if you spend a little time figuring it out, then it will come natural before too long...
