ScubaToys has fantastic business and customer service and most of my items will be bought from them...

However, wondering what items are best bought at local store (due to sizing, customization, shipping costs etc). Would it basically be the wetsuits, tanks & masks?

Pick up little extras, whistle, snap clips, etc. when you get fills; let them know you appreciate the air.

I would say that generall you should buy "in store" for items that need to fit. A mask, boots, wet/dry suit, fins. If you have experience with a certain make/model and know you want one particular thing, then ordering online is fine. If you're not sure about how it would fit, it's better to be hands-on.

I try to do a balancing act between LDS and ST. It's hard some times with the ST pricing though.

Air. That's about it. If only ST could ship massive quantities of air...

Air is about the only thing I ever buy from a LDS unless I am training then the course and books for the course is bought from the LDS

What gets really dirty is when you use the LDS for fitting and then once you figure out your size buy from ST. But my LDS didn't have my size, only a rental, and would have to order it, and was 1/3rd more than the ST price.

Now dealing with that dilemma in a dry suit. I know what size my rental suit is from my LDS, but when you factor in the 10% and the gift certificate, you are talking about a $200 difference between the LDS and the ST price.

Personally, I buy anything that is a) life support, b) needs servicing at my LDS.
