here is a trick I have picked up through my research and reading on line. Its called a bubble mask. you cup one hand over one eyes brow and close one nostril. than exhale through the other into the space created by your hand. and like magic you can open one eye. than with the other hand you can look at your Gage. cool huh? at least you can determine which way is up or down. I would signal your buddy first though. but it is another way to gain control in a potentially dangerous situation. I though I would share a trick. Do you have one you can share. please post to this thread.

Ever breath the bubbles in a hot tub....freaks people out! They think you're a dead body!

We were taught this trick in OW. It's a good way to help locate your mask if it's been kicked off and sinking/sunk to the bottom (assuming the bottom is not hundreds of feet down).

Please explain or am I missing something really obvious.

Most wouldn't want to breath "bubbles in a hot tub" when I am in there.

When they say ST-Forum Mod - that means he is a mod for one of the areas... in his case... the ScubaDillo Dive Club.

Either that or he bribed me... I can't remember which.

a bubble maskThat's genius! I'd have never thought up that!!! Watch, the nex time I go diving, I'm going to have to try that. People will probably be looking at me like I'm stupid... (well more so than usual) :smiley36:

Actually, I find it really funny to take off my mask while diving, slip it in a pocket, and act as if nothing is wrong. Sometimes, I carry sunglasses with me, and slip them on halfway through the dive. Only works on really bright days. Also, it's fun to surface with sunglasses on, if you have non-diving friends with you....

Being able to eactually see without a mask on would be a plus.....thanks for the tip!

I'm going to give it a try myself just to see if i can. Could be usefull if you lost your mask and didn't have a back up.

That is a great tip! I will give it a try the next time I am in the water and see if I can make it work. Always worried what I would do if my mask came off, but I guess my dive buddy could retrieve it also. Thanks for the tip!!

yeah, the whole sunglasses while diving thing is pretty cool.
its great when you splash off a boat with your shades
flash the ok
and start descending.
crew looks at you like your crazy
of course you hopefully have a mask with you somewhere...

That is too funny......my husband would just think I was doing something else to make him nervous though...he is NOT a thrill seeker or adrenaline junky and I am just the opposite.....he is always worrying because I have very little fear.....Mask off isn't a problem for me but it would bother him alot.

Thanks for posting this, it's a great trick for me since I wear contacts ('til I can afford the surgery). If I open my eyes without my mask I lose my contacts (which in an emerg. is obviously not a problem), so if I can look around for even a second to find it that rocks...
