Here is the delima, Football is Sunday, Monday Right!!!!! All of My open water Dives for my C-card for the next two months are on what? You guessed it SUNDAY AND FREAKIN' MONDAY!!!! The problem on Monday is the dive site is about 3 hours from my home and believe me there is traffic. Now being on the East coast I will probably catch the end of the Game. WHAT DO I DO!!!!!! :smiley29:

Why do you have to choose? Bring a portable, battery operated TV and watch the games between dives. Make sure the screen is big enough so your buddies can watch too! Record the games at home in case you miss a big play. :-)

I hate to say this, especially since this a scuba board, but I can dive any time. Football is only once a week (ok twice a week) for 4 months or so. Football wins out over everything for me.

This was a dilemma since getting certified last year. I'm a BUCS season-ticket holder...die-hard fanatic! But I did end up giving up 2 home games last season to go diving. I find football to be a nerve-wracking, blood-pressure raising, emotional roller-coaster. Diving, on the other hand, is relaxing and soothing. I need both to stay and feel alive.

09-13-2007, 20:22
Hey, record the game. If your team wins you'll find out about it right away anyhow. If they lose, you'll kick yourself for not diving. I do this all the time. Plus, it's a road game for your boys anyway.

sorry, but I have to go with Scuba on this one too. If you don't have TIVO then go old school and figure out how to work the VCR. You can miss a football game and live on, I am not sure if the same is true without diving.

I'm diving early on Sunday. Our dive times are at 7 & 9 am. Should be able to get back home in time for at least the late game.

Or have your team lose 1/2 of its team week 1 so you don't have anything to look forward to other than another loss on Sunday..Go Bills! :)

Let's examine our choices:

1. Actively participate in a sport that few dare attempt

2. Live vicariously through a bunch of guys bumping into each other while, you lay about on the couch, guzzling cheap beer. stuffing your face full of greasy, fattening food, and screaming obscenities at the ref because of his latest dumbass call.

I feel your pain, I would go Scuba to if this was my case but a Live game is always better than a recorded one and you don't find out about your team losing because your buddy, who, his team just kicked your butt, left you a message on your phone.

I'll second that.. I work in probably the most nerdy career ever--IT and most of my co-workers are spending money on computer parts or home theater/audio stuff.. typical technology oriented consumer.. a few throw their money into their cars.. 4x4ing and such.

Whenever I buy a new bike (read: not walmart bike.. racing bike and not gasoline powered.. but pedals you rotate yourself) or scuba related stuff.. or even spend a prolonged period of time outside I get a lot of "why would you want to do that?" and general "wtf are you doing" kind of sentiment.. not sure why the majority of our population in america is fine with just sitting inside all day/night watching tv. I think I would kill myself if all I did was go to work.. come home.. watch tv.. bleh. Just thinking about it is depressing.

Record the game and go diving. Diving is something that is active and social that you can do for the rest of your life. True, watching football on TV sitting on your couch is also something you can do til your old and feeble, but you "participate" in scuba.

:smilie39: Thank you! I know I'm a minority, but I absolutely despise any and all ball sports. I think it's pretty ridiculous that we live in a society where some dumb jock can make more money than the person running our country just to run around and play with a ball. I can see it as entertainment, but there should be some kind of cap on how much money a guy can be paid to do it. ......and don't get me started on all the starving children in Africa.......

Unless you are on vacation, watch the football game. If it is on Saturday it's not worth watching, let them grow up and play real ball in a couple years.

The NFL is only really on one day a week untill that goofy thursday garbage after Thanksgiving. Mondays are annoying since the addition of Tony Cornholer!

That leaves six other days a week to get wet. The water is there every day.

The best football is on Saturday when the kids lay it all out on the line - not like pro sports where the dollar rules the results. Proplayers run out of bounds more often and avoid major blows. The college kids let it rip. Perhaps the skills level is not the same but the excitement of the game is much higher. Especially this year when it is wide open and changing every week. Having said that - I go diving Sat and Sun - teach most nights of the week so I miss it all. But I am happy!!!!

I've played underwater basketball (no fair grabbing the reg) but never football. Seems like it would be hard. Maybe ultimate frisbee is the ticket. I prefer doing sports to watching sports.

Now if its a choice of watching SCUBA or watching football the choice might be hard if I like one of the teams. But then I have a DVR so I don't have to choose.
