There remain only two remaining vets: one in Britain, one in Australia.

A sad day indeed. I feel the same way about our veterans of WW-II and Korea. We lose over1,000 per day. And I can't forget the Vietnam vets too.

But to add a truism to it, I believe it was General George S. Patton who said "We should not be saddened that these men have died, we should be thanking the God above that these men lived!

I had the great honor of bestowing military honors at the funeral of the last navy veteran in Kansas a few years ago. I will admit, it was very hard not to break down when I gave his great-granddaughter the flag after it was folded. I will also admit I changed the standard phrase for the presentation: "One behalf of a Greatful Nation and a Proud but saddened Navy, plese accept this flag in honor of your Great Grandfather's faithful and honorable duty, serivce and sacrifice for his country. His Navy and his shipmates mourn his passing."
