In the olden days people would barter for services. A doc would come over, set your leg or give ya some tonic, you give him a chicken, make him dinner, let him date your daughter or something.
Nathan has the right idea. :smiley20:

I have one slight disagreement with Nathan--all the vets I know are much smarter than doctors!

When I had my son, we gave the doctor a kid-safe horse as partial payment!

That was before a doctor expected to be paid a 150k plus base salary, we created ridiculous levels of schooling to produce a doctor and then started up a highly litigious society. Dash in all the mandatory filing rules and you end up with most wanting theirs before a patients problem is fixed. The system is broken for sure.

The Evolution Of Medicine...
2000 BC -- Here, eat this root.
1000 AD -- That root is heathen. Here, say this prayer.
1850 AD -- That prayer is superstition. Here, drink this potion.
1940 AD -- That potion is snake oil. Here, swallow this pill.
1985 AD -- That pill is ineffective. Here, take this antibiotic.
2000 AD -- That antibiotic doesn't work anymore. Here, eat this root.
