View Full Version : 19 bucks? You Gotta Be Screwin' With Me

So, last night, I take the honey to movies. We go out to the movies, well, never. So I'm about to pay, and I hear the ticket seller in the next booth tell the customer, "That's nineteen dollars." Without looking up, I think to myself, "Man, taking a family of four to the movies is expensive nowadays."

Then my ticket seller tells me, "That'll be nineteen dollars."

$19??? For two??? Holy s***. No wonder I never go out to the movies any more. That's absurd. I knew the candy and food would be ridiculous, but the entry fee?

I remember when I could go the the movies for 25 cents. Blockbuster movies were outrageously priced at 50 cents.

FYI. The film was Vin Diesel in Fast 5. If you like action flicks (and I do), go see it. The sound system in the theatre almost made me forget the cost. Almost.

Rick... you're kinda sounding like my Dad. "Oh, you can just tip her a dollar... that's a lot of money!..."

Hey, next time... go to a 3D movie - it will set you back another 3 bucks a ticket... but worth it!

Going to the theater isn't what it use to be. I don't know how these kids do it now days. Try taking a family of 4....hit the concession stand and you've spend $100 on the evening.

We try and hit the matinaes (sp), they seem to be a little cheaper or wait for it to come out on dvd.

By the way... I'm sure getting bent over spending $19 on a date really impressed the little lady huh? Did you then start looking under seats to find some left over popcorn... the large ones so you can go get a free refill on it?? And then pull the box of jujubees out of your coat pocket that you had to sneak in?? :smilie39:

You're not showing your age too much with that comment Vercingetorix, I'm only in my early 20s and have seen movie prices go up more than I like over my short life. I did read an interesting write from someone in the theater business, or so they said, and the theater itself doesn't make as much money as you'd think from ticket sales; the majority of the ticket price will go to the movie studios. Concessions, however, are the theater's money maker.

LOL! Last movie I went to a theater for was Titanic. The CU begged me to take her. These days the DH and I are happy waiting on Netflix releases. My couch is more comfortable anyway.

Actually, yes. She's cheaper than I am.

I'm another matinee movie goer, at least that way, I can take wife and kiddo for $24 But have to add another $17 for pop and popcorn. For that matter, I haven't seen a movie other than a kids movie for years.

We paid like $14 a piece to see it IMAX the first time... IMAX, to me, is worth the extra cash though - you think seeing it in a great movie theatre is awesome, see it IMAX, its a better experience altogether...

IMAX theatres, even when not showing true IMAX films, have better seating arrangements, much bigger screens, guaranteed more real estate and viewing angles, and, my favorite, the best audio systems you will find...

You guys are funny! Yes, it's Child Unit. (we were often called the parental units, or just units when the daughter was in her teens.)

What else can you do for $20 bucks a piece? Unless Mickey D's is your idea of a cheap date night.

Better yet go with the family to a 3D movie pay the premium and not be able to see the 3D...I am blind in one eye and still have to wear the stupid glasses so it's not blurry but I don't get any of the 3d efx.

a friend of mine and I go often, 10-13 each depending on weather it is 3d or not, 10 for two cokes or 20 for popcorn and 2 cokes, another 5 in arcades waiting on the movie, 25 for dinner. I told him he needed to magically turn into a hot girl or start throwing in.
