On my dive trip aboard the Cat Ppalu I spotted this. They are about the size of a Coke can and, No, they are not chunks of dryer vent hose. It was found near Pac Man reef in the Bahamas, if that is any help.9451

:smiley36: Actually this is a Mollask egg casing, most likley a Queen Conch.

Internally fertilized eggs are surrounded by a transparent mass of albumen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albumen), a gel-like material, and are laid in protective flat, rounded egg capsules joined to form a paper-like chain of egg cases, commonly called a "Mermaid's Necklace". On average each capsule contains 0-99 eggs, with most strings having 40-160 capsules.

ohh that is really cool!!!! yes they do look like dryer vent hose.

Glad you posted that. I saw one at Cozumel last year and did not know what it was.
