I am a new certified diver and want to hear from people that have dived with operaters that were safe, and provided a great overall experience in Playa.

I heard good things about Phocea, but I don't know them personnally. I'm planning to go there next year, so I'm also looking for more info about the dive shops over there.

Many people just hop the ferry over the CZM.

I went thru Scuba Playa back in January, it was my first ocean dive and it was quite a treat for the area; it was recommended to me to go to Coz as well but time didn't afford em the pleasure.

I just got back from Playa and Cozumel the middle of last month but didnt go to dive unfortunately. The entire area is beautiful and its only 11 or 12 dollars and a 30 minute ferry ride to Cozumel so I see no reason not to dive both places.

We were in PDC in May 2006 and dove with Tank-Ha. We were very happy with them (DM Froy is the best). They treated us very well!

Brad??? If so, congratulations on your OW Cert. You might also try Scubaboard. I am not sure how to post links, but here is a thread specifically about PDC. http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201634. Hope that helps.

I second the recommendation for Tank Ha, and have been out with them several days each during 6 trips the past 4 years. The staff is great - very professional and friendly, as well as fun to dive with. The cenote dives are incredible, and I've been buddied with people from all over which is a nice opportunity to talk about places I've never been. Tank Ha is located right on 5th Ave in Playa, and they are the only dive shop I'm aware of who takes a boat directly over to Cozumel once a week. For me, that's much better than dragging my gear over on the ferry for the day. Plenty of info available at www.tankha.com (http://www.tankha.com) and Desiree is usually very prompt at responding to email inquiries.

A must go is Cozumel a 30 min ride from Playa del Carmem. I dove there in 2006 with AquaWorld, they are very friendly and safety oriented. They are located in from of the Park Royal Cozumel Hotel.
Don't miss to Dive Santa Rosa Wall!!!!

Be sure to dive the tortugas (turtles) if you are in Playa.

We actually dove it from Cozumel but would be easier from the mainland. Need to do it on a calm day from Coz.

We saw no less than 15 turtles and schools of huge tarpon. A very swift drift dive. But it was awesome.

I was going to ask this question a little closer to trip time because I'm going down to Playa del Carmen as part of a cruise in December. bmann, when will you be there? Are you going just as a trip, or on a cruise too?

I've dove Cozumel and absoultely loved the fish and coral! But I really want to do some cenotes and see some turtles this trip, so I'll definintely look up Tank-ha or Fantasea. SYOTABUCS, are the 'tortugas' an area/reef that turles hang out in? Should I ask for this to be a dive site when calling around, or should I just say " Dang'it I want to see some turtles!" and they'll know where to take me?

Scuba Diving, Fishing, Dive Packages, and Extreme Sports in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Riviera Maya, Yucatan, Mexico and Caribbean (http://www.fantaseadive.com) - Jason's great. I dived with him in Oct, and go back Monday for more. I can't say enough good things about the dives he took me on.

Wow- not sure how, but I wrote out the web address, and thats what showed up....

Just did the Tortuga Dive with Scuba Playa Diving Playa del Carmen - Scuba Playa Mexico - Dive Shop (http://www.scubaplaya.com) Excellent drift dive. Saw tons of sea turtles, some baracuda, scorpion fish etc.. Nice dive outfit to use when in Playa Del Carmen.

We went with Phocea Diving Playa del Carmen Mexico - Phocea Riviera Maya (http://www.phocearivieramaya.com/) and had great dives. It is a French operation, and many of the clientele were French. The divemasters were great, and we dove in small groups (in our case 3+ DM).

Tank-Ha did an excellent trip for us. We did 8 dives with them, 2 in Playa, Tortugas being one of them, and 6 in Cozumel. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. I strongly recommend them.
