Ok I put together a ceiling fan yesterday using nothing but my leatherman tool, as I could not find my other tools ( daughter thinks they are toys). But need to take points away for after I installed it, it would not work. :smilie39:

that takes some skill.

how long did it take you to install?

Great job did you figure out why it wont work and did you do it with live wires that might add back the lost points but earn some darwin points

Turn the breakers back on yet? :smiley5:

Wouldnt that mean you had to turn them off in the first place? Or did he trip them himself?

Turned the breaker back on, must have something wired wrong, at least I didn't blow any when I tried. It took about 5 hours, or 4 beers to do it.

To truly earn your Man Card, duct-tape must be involved.

But of course, I did not have any electrical tape so I had to use duct tape.

marchand

If everything else was done right then it is probably the ductape. I'm not sure, but I think that ductape conducts electricity slightly. So, it could be conducting just enough for it to short out but not enough to trip the breaker.
Just a thought.

did you lick your fingers properly before you grabbed a wire in each hand to determine if the current was live? A lot of man and darwin points for that!

Hopefully with the learning from this one, the next will take 20 min and you can spend the rest of the time watching the game with a case of beer.

WOW 5 hours for 4 beers, 4 beers = 1hour, you must have been really concentrating on that fan....

I would think beer consumption would have gone up exponentially with each hour and then "time to contemplate" when it didn't work

Maybe you were drinking the wrong kind of beer?

And I wonder how many beers he drank after he found out that the fan doesn't work?
Call paintsnow, he'll take care of ya.

If you drink enough beers..the fan WILL work, oh wait maybe it just seems that way because the room is spinning...

Nice job doing it "Survivorman" style! Now if you had been STANDING in beer while working on a live circuit, I'd have been REALLY impressed!

no points, you should have so many redundant tools your daughter can't possibly hide all of them.

LOL I try, I loose tools so much. My project for the spring is to clean out garage. I will probably find many of tools there. I did go into her room last night and found a few tools, but none of the screw drivers I needed.

I call that "taming the cobra". I am a contractor, one of my employees was afraid of electricity. I was working on the metal box with live wires, and he cautioned me. I pull the wires through the box and touched a live wire to the box. Big blue sparks! He laughed his assss off. I reset the breaker.
Nothing but fun.
