does anyone dive with one of these cameras? If so how do you like it? I'm looking to get a video camera for underwater. I do not need anything fancy or high dollar to just shoot simple videos.

I have one and so far I love it.
I have the GoPro Hero, not the 2 or 3 just the Hero.
My wife found it while we were diving at Jakes Point on Table Rock lake.
Since we found it we only have the camera with the underwater housing & head strap to go with it.
I just had to find a cord that I could hook it into my computer to charge it & download the videos.
I am now thinking about getting a new GoPro Hero 3 black edition with the filters for fresh & salt water with all the other bells & whistles.
If you have seen the videos I posted in the midwest fourm they were all shot with that old GoPro & no filters.
For the price I think it's a great camera.

I must agree, that is got to be my favorite dive in Table Rock to this point.
If the temps hold up like todays & it's not raining & I am going to make that dive again real soon.
Hoping for this weekend???

My brother has a go pro, I don't know the model, but he doesn't use his still camera anymore. I made him a handle to hold it and aim. If he sees something that he wants some light on he justy has me light it with my led light, it's worked so far even at night. One feature he tried was apicture every 10 seconds during the whole dive, he spent hours deleteing the bad ones but got some decent shots. He does mainly video then extracts stills from them.

Have just got a #3 Black and slowly learning to use it, results appear very good and I actually don't know any of the settings yet:smiley29:. Reall have only been playing with the way you hold it, on the head strap appears to be very jerky. Have made up a long adjustable handle which allows it to get closer to the critters or use a short Grenade Grip - GoProŽ Hand Grip by GoPole (http://www.gopole.com/product/grenade-grip) . Would be interested to know what others use?

The key I hear is shoot in the highest frame rate possible. 1080 at 60 or 720 at 120
then turn protune on set white balance in camraw.
the initial video will look murky and bad, but cine form can make it come alive because it is raw

If you are talking Black there have been a lot of issues with this camera. Gopro released a firmware update in December that is supposed to fix the issues. But do the update using the manual method since some are reporting the auto method is messing up.
Here is a good thread on how to deal with the major problems.

Boiled down.
Dont update or transfer pictures or charge from a PC and USB cord (different versions of USB seem to cause problems)
Do update the firmware, but use the manual method
Do get a quality SD card as poor SD cards have been known to cause issues.
Only Format your card using the camera initialize. do not format in a PC
