I tried to look it up for you on the DCHD site but they don't look that far ahead apparently. Even the Shark Week website isn't fully built yet!

That's so cool! I wish I had cable right about now! I'll get my parents to record it on their DVR and go watch it there. Thanks for the heads up.

I've really gotten bored with shark week. It's basically the same film, just re-edited year after year. I'll probably watch it anyway though. I'm jones-ing for anything underwater. I haven't been underwater ni a month now.

My wife asks me everyday if it's Shark Week yet. http://www.scubatoys.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gifI have to tell her it's not the 29th yet. http://www.scubatoys.com/forum/smileys/smiley13.gif

I don't want my wife to watch it. I haven't dove in 6+ months.... I doubt I'd ever get to dive again if she watches it.

I found this. (http://media.ctv.ca/discoveryhd/releases/release.asp?id=9623&yyyy=2007). Looks like there should be HD programming. It's from a Canadian website, but I'm sure the line-up is pretty much the same.

No problem. I'm thinking about calling the cable company to see if I can get HD programming hooked up before Shark Week. smileys/smiley1.gif

My Tivo is set, sort of agree with Black-Gorilla about the new content, but I do like some of their series.

I thought last year's was great. They had Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs do a special. It was really good. I can't wait to see the kickoff of this year's.

I think I posted this right before we switched servers, but I'm really looking forward to the premiere of Ocean of Fear. Not being a history buff, I learned what little I knew of it from Jaws. Quint, the boat captain, was a crew member on the USS Indianapolis.

jaws is also one of my fav. educational movies.
:dodgy:

i saw some good shark stuff on the history channel... but as it was on the history channel.. it was old world war stuff...

Hey Black-Gorrilla.... Right you are!
Discovery is already showing some Shark stuff now.
Thanks.

Tonite "Ocean of fear worst shark attack ever."
When the USS Indianpolis sank in open waters, they prayed that they would be found" They were!
Shortly after midnight on July 30, 1945 the USS Indianapolis was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine and quickly sank. The sinking went unnoticed until survivors were observed on August 2nd by a passing aircraft. Rescue efforts over several days saved only about a quarter of her nearly 1200-man crew. Many of the crew members were eaten by sharks.

the stuff that they are showing is preety old.. i've seen most of it... but im recovering from a night of heavy drinking... and the weather at the beach sucks... so im stuck in the hotel, on a laptop, with a bunch of friends watching discovery channel... and trowing back some booze

Somehow I've never managed to watch any of the shark-week shows, so to use an old NBC slogan "they are all new to me".

Doesn't seem to be any HD content with DishNetwork -- all my DVR stuff is recording on regular Discovery channel, not Discovery HD :(

Yep, same old crap, new season. But I'm sitting in the station on duty today, so I'd rather watch anything to do with the ocean, than the usual weekend dribble.

Jeez, does thing really need to be 2 hours long? I'm ready to start chugging sea water already myself.

Rascal1933
07-29-2007, 22:10
Yeah agree that it was good, but the length ( 2 hours?) did seem to be too long...

07-29-2007, 22:28
I missed it.... was it on HD at all?

Black-Gorrilla
07-29-2007, 22:42
it was too long... seemed kind of repetitive after a bit. but overall ok.
2hours was a bit too much... maybe 1 hour would have done the trick..

Some of the shark week stuff has been decent. (Have to question the sanity of the guy who got bitten in the calf by the bullshark though.) Glad many of the shows now are geared towards conservation of sharks. I remember watching it years ago and it stressed the man-eater scarefactor more than respect.

Ocean of Fear is on right now. Pretty darn scary stuff.

Some pretty graphic stuff. I would say Discovery channel has faith in their demographics however. 2 hours of re-creations of White Tips hauling down and dismembering bodies while running regular PSA's about how "you can help save these magnificent creatures".

Black-Gorrilla
07-30-2007, 12:14
seemed slightly out of place huh?
