Was sitting here watch a cold rain come down on a dreary day and of course, the mind wanders to warm, sunny tropical places and the dives that were done and the critters that were seen. So I got to thinking about what critters are on my bucket list and which one's I've already seen:

Seen Blue Whale, Grey Whale, Humpback, Orca, Narwhal, Nautilus, Whale shark, spotted dolphin, blue ring octopus to name a few.

What's on your gotta see list?

I was a young 17 yo diver in the Gulf of California (actually saw the grey whale on the same trip along with a manta ray and hammerhead.) saw a BIG fish off a wall I was diving, swam that way and found it was a Whale shark. Kind of fun.

I would love to see another mammal. Dolphin, whale, sea lion, I'm not picky.

I had a sea lion steal a 10 pound grouper from my spear on that same trip... I'm still not over it.:smiley36: (http://javascript<strong></strong>:void(0))

Some friends did the Splash Belize dives a few years ago. One dive was a bust, one dive they saw two.
The 2nd time out they dove with about 1/2 dozen and two surfaced near the boat giving the snorkelers a thrill also.
It's all predicated on when the Cubera snapper spawn around the full moon. The rest of the time - don't bother. Even Splash will tell you that.

Just snorkeling - Utila is a pretty high probability mid-spring also. We snorkeled with 8 over 2 days in March a few years ago. Mostly younger males (16-20') but one female was estimated at 35' long - we used the 36' boat for comparison. http://www.aboututila.com/ScubaInfo/Whale-Sharks/Whale-Shark-Utila.htm

My buddy shot the dot pattern (how they're ID'd) on one and sent it into the registry. Our DM thought it might've been one they'd not seen before. Although they already knew about it, they still send him an e-mail anytime it's spotted. His seems to stay off Central America and Mexico. I adopted one thru sharks.org and mine stayed around Tanzania but hasn't been seen in several years.

Not words I would have expected to hear from a man who has served in two branches of the United States Armed Services. Lets keep this quite, we don't want Bear Grylls doing a show wrestling sea lions.

It's like manatee, but more gamey.

No specific animals, but it's on my list to go diving in both the arctic and antarctic, so I guess all the critters that those places entail. No spider crabs though. Those things give me the creeps
