Just wondering if anyone have or use this item...
http://scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?product_id=PSD

It looks like the most compact SMB on the market... I own a zeagle BC and one thing is that the zeagles have smallpockets and I would like to keep this in the pocket as oposed to cliped... doesanyone like or hate this item? thanks

You will want to really think about how you will use it. This one looks terrific for signal/rescue at the surface, but I don't think it has an over pressure releif valve and thus would not be a smart choice to deploy at any depth.

You may want to check out the October issue of Scuba Diving if you haven't done so already. They review the Oceanic PSD and several others (but not the Zeagle).

I think the zeagle is a much better idea -
There are many uses for an smb, if it is a versatile one.
You can raise it from depth to mark your position while you do a safety stop, but you want to also be able to release it with a a dive slate/message attached...imagine a problem at depth that the boat can help out with..like sending down an extra air tank...because somebody is running way low and it would be unsafe for them to surface at the moment .....things happen....
you also want to be able to fill it at depth and have it rise without exploding..hence the need for an over pressure valve. But, what if you're out of air and want to be able to inflate it...hence you want/need the oral inflator.....
at the surface ...THE BIGGER THE BETTER, thats the whole point...to get attention, especially if you and the boat are moving away from eachother due to current. Yellow seems to be better than orange in most of the tests...
And you want the smb to seal in some way at the surface, so it doesnt deflate.
Since the zeagle already comes with a reel, has all of the other features mentioned, and is BIG...its a good choice ...imho

I'd agree that the Zeagle SMB (http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=ZeagleDeployMarkerKit) is the best for all uses... but it's a few bucks. If you already have your own finger spool (http://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=FingerSpool) you could get away using just a basic SMB, but if you want a large self sealing SMB (http://scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=SelfSealingSafetyTube) like this, the zeagle seems like the best deal since it's not much more money, and yet you get a lot of stuff!

The review will be posted at some point on their web site (see http://www.scubadiving.com/gear). It would be hard to give a good overview. I could just tell you that they identified two SMB for a "testers' choice" award (DAN Surface Signaling Kit and OMS High Seas BCA268), but I'm not sure that is too helpful. To me the utility of the review is to understand the range of options, and then choose the SMB that is best for you. Of course, the review is just a sample, and the best one for you may not have been included. If you want to see the review before it gets posted to the web, the October issue should now be in both new and used bookstores (as well as the library).
Best,
Rick

I like the zeagle set up. I wish I had seen it before my recent purchase. It should work from depth (have a relief valve) as it comes with a spool. May want to have larry or scott verify that.
