The problem with living "down under" is that we are sometimes 6 months behind release dates and/or twice as expensive as you lucky folks living in the states (Australia lucky place to live, bad place to shop)

I would like to know the best place to buy memory cards from in the states or even overseas that offer international shipping.

I am chasing a Sandisk Ultra II SDHC 8gb. It wont be in Australia for another 6-8 weeks.

Any help would be appreciated,

Aussie

A good site to check out is www.pricegrabber.com

It's one of many comparison sites here in the US.

Also try www.shopping.com

For regular updates of cheap tech deals try: www.techbargains.com

Adorama has it: http://www.adorama.com/IDSUSD8G.html They or B&H Photo Video (http://bhphotovideo.com) (although they don't list it) would be two places I'd completely trust, they're huge and have been in business for years. I've bought a lot of video gear from B&H over the years and recommend them regularly. Both ship internationally.

Can't you just change your default google search page from Australia to USA and then type in the search string "Sandisk Ultra II SDHC 8gb"? I found 39 different vendors

I double check my prices against adorama for my camera gear. The price they had it over here was better. I did see the Sandisk Extreme III 16gb CF card for $219. I wish that Nikon stayed with CF than going to SD on the D80!!!!

newegg.com is nice, techbargains.com is incredible. LOTS of amazing priced items on there. i got my dell laptop for i think $600 under retail THRU dell. companies put sales on the website and adv. them there, dunno why. but yea, lots of great deals thru other companies (its basically a middle man to display great deals)

Staples usually has good sales, believe it or not.

If you're not in a rush wait until the Thanksgiving weekend. That's always the BEST time of the year to buy tech stuff.

Then check out Techbargains.com (http://www.techbargains.com) at that time and they'll have tons of real steals.

Amazon (http://amazon.com) has frequent smokin' deals on memory cards in the today's deals section. I buy all my cards at Costco (http://costco.com), but as mentioned above the membership could be problematic for your situation. Also Calumetphoto.com (http://calumetphoto.com) has pretty good deals on the Calumet house-branded cards. I really liked all the house-brand Calumet gear and they have excellent customer service. And, as mentioned above Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! (http://Newegg.com) has really good deals.

(woah, why is newegg automagically adding that tagline to my post?)

I like adorama, as others have mentioned and also beachcamera.com, they have what you are looking for Sandisk 8 GB Ultra II Secure Digital { SDHC } Memory Card W/ Reader (http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=SDSD8GU2)

when buying online, I check reviews at resellerratings.com
Beachcamera, adormama and B&H all have very high ratings

Thanks for the input everyone,

I checked out the cards at Adorama.com but they are the same price as over here for that 8gb Ultra II SDHC
But.............I found the Sandisk Extreme III 4gb SDHC cards there on special for $67...............then I found it was going to cost $42.50 to post one card with UPS.

I will keep looking.

I had to smile at Chace' comment re the ouch for UPS.

Alot of US companies only use UPS as it can be tracked easier and is insured. I have purchased some hunting gear from USA and had it sent US Post which also has a tracking system but alot of people that export wont use it. The price is remarkably cheaper.

the other issue is that we have to pay import duty with goods coming into the country over the value of $100 so when you do a USA purchase you usually try to purchase a few things at once as there is an economy of scale in the freight based on weight.

G'day Krakenn me mate,

I did the search around the traps here and either 1. they had a good price but didnt have it in stock and waiting for stock back order or 2. bad price and none in stock also. I actually ordered one of the Sandisk Ultra II 8gb SDHC cards from over here, but after waiting a month I cancelled the order.

I ask ST to send the gear I order via USPS EMS as its tracked and a hell of alot cheaper than the quotes I get with UPS.

I was under the belief that you dont attract any duty for items totaling $1000AUD.

As for hunting over here, very quiet with the drought and all that. Plenty of crows which is good for my style of hunting.

Duty in via Sydney is a killer i have purchased about $6k worth of gear over the past few years and the shine goes off with the duty.

I did hear that they were going to change it to $900 for certain items.

I have an email from customs if you want me to PM.

Hunting here is bad as well, terrain is all but dead in the northern areas for ferals.

Planning a trip with a few pals to go get some some Water Buffalo in the NT next year and try out the 45.70 on them big fellas.

But thats another story - all the best Aus.

I bought 6 cards last year off Ebay and all 6 were fakes. They were Sandisk branded copies. Sellers also had over a 1000 feedbacks. Got my money back but they still left me negatitive feedback. Ebay wouldn't take the negatitive feedback off unless legal action was taken.

Ebay is great but not when it comes to Memory cards!

How could you tell they were fakes?....I assume they would not work?....I just ordered a Sony Memory stick and will see if that is real or not....I made sure it was in the USA not Hong Kong.....I'll let you know if I am lucky.

There is a big review in Ebay about it:
eBay Australia Guides - FAKE SanDisk Ultra Compact Flash Cards Exposed (http://reviews.ebay.com.au/Beware-of-FAKE-1GB-2GB-4GB-8GB-USB-Flash-Drives-on-eBay_W0QQugidZ10000000000792498)

Some worked and some didn't. I read the review after I had ordered and paid for them. There also wasn't a serial number on the card and the sticker on the card look fake. The retail package which it came in was also a copy. This was for both CF, SD, and I also believe Sony.

I will not buy memory cards off Ebay from now on. Even the local Ebay sellers sold me a fake.

I got my Sony Memory stick....could not wait to tell you it is real....BUT....Guess what FAKE!!!!.....Looked real...but no serial #....so I downloaded a couple of picture files on it...all I got was "0 ! squares"....sent off a counterfit e-mail to e-bay and told the seller he wasted an hour of my time....and he needed to go to Best Buy and send me a new one or I have just started the fight!

I posted negative feedback cause they sold me a fake and I wanted to let other buys know. But the comeback was that the seller of the fake card can also post a negative feedback on your account. Ebay would not remove it unless legal action was undertaken.

Good Luck,

I filed a counterfit claim with e-bay and disputing my payment....damn that makes me mad for wasting my time on junk.....we will see how much hell I can raise as E-bay says they are now cracking down on this crap!
