Hi guys well yesterday I placed an order for a H2O 6cu spare air and some other gear.

I have been asked by some users on this Board about how long this stuff takes to get to Australia so I thought you might get a kick out of it if I write up the gears travels from the order placement through the Scuba Toys shop then around the world and into Western Australia.

The time as I write this is 19:17 - 21 October so you can work out the time difference from where you live by the Boards clock and my posts.

Ill use the active date as being from the time Scubatoys automated system advised me of confirmation of the order and the gear i have purchased.

I have put a note on the order for Scubatoys to contact me re UPS pricing prior to placing the order and I used my gift certificate for my 250 posts!

The advice email came back at 5:06pm my time advising of receival of my order; our mission begins..........

1) No advice of UPS charges but assume cant be done on Saturday USA or Joe is having a day off and other employees are chatting up the chicky babes in shop!

In deed it has been... Saturday and Sundays have no UPS service here - so your stuff would not get processed until Monday morning after 10 am... and it should go out the same day. So that is the soonest it can get going if placed on the weekend.

We open about 4 hours from now.... so expect to see something in an email sometime today... near 10 or so our time.

Here's the way things work... Each morning we can ship, Ricky hits the computer and downloads all the orders.... Joe is looking through all the emails, I'm goofing off drinking coffee....

Ricky prints out the orders for the guys to start pulling product, and any that need special attention, like shipping quote, special order product, etc, those get pulled into his pile. As soon as all the orders are printed, he starts going through the ones that need the special attention.

During that time, one of the guys... Todd, Corey, Greg, Joey, Corbin, Kyle, Wayne... or someone... is taking the printed orders starting at the first one that came in - time/date order.

They go find the product, and if something like a reg with assembly, then one of the guys that has the tech training grabs it and assembles it at the test bench at the front of the store. We also have a full test bench in the repair area in the back - but for just assembly - we normally handle it up front.

After that person has gathered up all the items on the order, they put them with the order on the shipping table, and initial the order sheet. Then whoever is the boxing guys - grab the orders, determine the proper size box for the order, and pack it up, double checking the correct number, color, etc of products are in the box. Then it gets weighed and put next to Ricky again, who hopefully by this time has finished his emails of shipping quotes, etc.

So then he pulls up the order and checks to see if the customer is already in our database, if not, we purge them in, and create the invoice for their goods. If any of the items are regulators, it automatically pops up a box on the invoice to input the serial number, IP of the first stages and crack pressure of the second stages. This was recorded off the IP gauges and magnahelix during the assembly process.

Our custom software that we use for our point of sale interfaces with the UPS software, and uploads our customers info into the UPS program, prints the label, and then sends all the data back to our database with the weight, time, service, etc of the package. It also records who pulled the order, who boxed it, who processed it.

Then it automatically sends out an email with all the UPS tracking info and a copy of the invoice, including shipping costs, etc.

Since we are such a large customer with UPS (http://www.scubatoys.com/press/ups.asp) they make sure that we get a pickup as late in the day as possible to still get out the overnight packages, and on higher seasons for us, will pickup several times throughout the day.

Luckily, we are only about 15 mintues from the DFW airport, so even products handed off the them at 7pm still make a plane for overnight delivery and can be in at someones door by 9am the next morning, or in Australian customs 18 hours later.

And depending on the day, this procedure is repeated 100 - 150 times. And I've very proud to say, that each package is treated with the utmost care and the understanding that this might be the item that is going to make or break a trip for you.

I explain to the guys, pretend that every box leaving here is a regulator, or BC, or something that I need so I can leave to go half way around the world on the trip I've been waiting for my whole life.... And I don't like to be disappointed!

So anyway... just for the folks who can't walk in the door and see this all going on, or can't get a feel of it from the webcam - that is how it all works. Now let's see how we do with your package!

I'm just getting up! About 5, I get up, make the coffee, hit the pages, forum, check orders, stats, etc. Then as soon as the sun comes up - about 7:30 now, I go feed the horses... then grab a shower, last look at the forum, and start my drive in to work. And then I'll get home late tonight, and watch Monday night football with a laptop on my knees, checking the sites...

Yea... a little addicted to work and scuba... but I wouldn't have it any other way!

OK people we have action Stations.

As advised by the GP himself, Rick has emailed and advised the freight is going to be $132.40 by UPS or $74.00 by US Post but no guanrantees on arrival.

While the cost for freight is high considering the items im shipping and the fact that the total cost is about $450 for the order, I have decided to go with UPS.

About now Im assuming Rick has Santas' elves out getting the gear and packaging it up for moi. Im a bit worried cause I dont know if I was naughty or nice this year, hell when in doubt pay your way out!

So the advice came in to me from Rick at 1:12am on the 23rd, Australian time so I replied advising proceed with the order at 8:29am on the 23rd.

Im assuming we have a deal and the goods are flying but i havent had a tracking number from Rick yet so it might still be in the store, tomorrow will tell!.

All the best

Haha, it's exciting waiting for a parcel and watching that UPS link isn't it??!! I must have jumped on line to check many, many times at work when I was waiting for my parcels. Frustrating to see when it arrived in Auckland (NZ) but took a couple more days to turn up in my town. At the end of it I was also able to see who had signed for MY parcel (was delivered to work). Technology is great!

Sniff, thanks I reckon it will be here tomorrow, sniff.

I was trying to show how quick the package comes and perhaps to give some assurance to people who worry about purchasing online how easy and quick it is as usually I have it in four/five days. This has been a sureal experience and leaves a sour taste with UPS, though the service from Scuba Toys is 5 from 5, I still cant believe the UPS experience, Im hoping it is a comedy of errors and perhaps I need to look at the different options for delivery from UPS if I want it quicker.

I'll actually start to spew if it isnt here tomorrow as Im only one hours drive from Perth on highway 1.

What sought of dive lights did you get? Being a Sydney sider, I bet you got the Dive Rite mini?

Please feel free to show a different experience than mine and log your packages travels on this thread.

Be thankful it has only taken this long. For some reason it takes longer for me to receive packages from Canada than it does China. My last order from Canada took 24 days. The last order from China took only 5.

Go figure... It always seems that when you place a order you are really excited for something happens in transit and it takes longer than usual.

Then when it's something you don't really care about it's there in a few days.

Murphy's Law, I guess.

Thanks Kraks for posting this.

I'm looking to order from ST later when I get my 250 posts and more $$ from Christmas&Birthday presents (fingers crossed). I am wondering about the difference in time between UPS and US Post seeing there's a fair bit of differences in price.

Any others from Australia ordered from ST and used US Post? Care to share your experience? Anyone else who has order and is tracking or is ordering? It was interesting reading, I wished I'd known and have followed the thread as it's happening. Perhaps someone else would post their tracking experience as well.

Im from your neck of the woods and i have had about 5 things come by UPS from ST and they have come in about 3 days except for 1 order which took about 5.
It takes longer if you order just before the weekend.
I am generally very happy with the time they have taken and i think Kraks has had a bit of bad luck with his order.:)

Depending on where you are in Australia, sometimes you can only run UPS International Saver, and other areas only UPS International Express. The saver is a few dollars cheaper (not much) but normally adds a few days.

Postal is a real hit and miss nightmare most times. With our UPS discounts on international shipping, the cost difference is only about 10% more for UPS and then it's trackable the whole way, automatically insured and we've yet to have a package come up missing going to Australia. And if one did - we get paid within a few days. With postal, our post office hands off to the other post office, and the tracking kind of stops. We can get a delivery confirmation, but if it goes from the US into Australia... and not delivered yet - it's virtually impossible to figure out where the darn thing is or the status. And shipping postal, we've probably had at least a dozen packages just go missing - and it takes several months to get reimbursed with the insurance.

So pretty much, unless someone really insists, and understands that if it goes missing in their country - it may take 3-4 months to get a replacement.... we really try to avoid postal.
