<DIV>It seems some lowlife scumbags decided to vandalize Mermet Springs last weekend. As per Glen, they broke glass out of the phone booth, cut cables on the Cessna and tore the top off of the 1 man sub by the rail car. Glen has asked for help trying to narrow down who has done this. If you hear anything or know anything, email glen@mermetsprings.com. Glen said you can call him at the quarry 618-527-3483 or his cell 618-771-6990 Please help flush these cowards out. They have no respect for your propert or safety. Ken</DIV>

They seem to have everything there. The airplane in the movie US Marshals is sunken there.

I was there on Friday &amp; Saturday (the 20th &amp; 21st). It was my 2nd trip, and I really like the place. Very friendly staff, and easy diving. The weather was perfect, and even though it got a little stirred up on Saturday, it was a good trip.

<DIV>You can stay above the thermalcline, and see most of the sites, but the railroad car, the nose of the plane, the ambulance, and the semi are below the thermalclien. The nose of the plane has a thermometer that showed 54. So bring your heavy wetsuit to see all the sites. Besides from the advertised sites, there are several smaller items that you find just by exploring.</DIV>
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV>I'll probably may this an annual trip. And for above the water, there is always the giant statue of Superman in Metroplolis. And there's a Casino for those that want to just give their money away.</DIV>

There is a very cool historic Fort overlooking the Ohio River in Mermet that is an interesting surface interval. Patti's 1880's Restaurant is a great place to eat!!

The Mermet Quarry is located about 10 miles outside of town. There are plenty of places to stay in town...Holiday Inn, Comfort Suite, and AmeriSuite Hotel across from the Harrah's Casino.

That's a Boeing 707 passenger jet. The wings and upper tail have been removed. Tail is at about 25-30ft and the nose is at 50ft and 55 degrees... brrrr... :smiley29:

Great place to dive, well worth the drive from just about anywhere. I'm 6 hours away and would not hesitate to jump in the truck and go diving here. Lot's of sites, great undwater tour. Great training area or to just brush up on your skills. Glen runs a top notch diving facility. Not just a hole in the ground where you spend time looking at rocks and muck.

Headed there the last week of September. Glen is in some branch of the Illinois State Police. I'm sure he'll find the vandals :smiley5:

I too should be there the last weekend of Sept. I am going to do a Dry Suit course and it will be there on Sun. It think that I am working on Sat so I will not be down there until Sun. As it gets closer we will have to try to figure out how to get together and at least say Hi...

Apologize for hacking the thread, but quick question:

Skdvr: What shop are taking your dui certification out of? Can you tell me a little about it. I'm thinking I want to do this, but haven't found a shop yet that offers the certification.

I'm not Skdvr, Snagel but I will bet they are going thru The Great American Dive Company located in St. Charles... They are running a Dry Suit dive class the last weekend in Sept at Mermet.

Info: http://www.tgadc.com/drysuit.aspx

Hope this was what you were looking for.

Yes sir I am taking the course through TGADC. They are a great shop. I am not sure where you are at but I think you are a little ways from the St Louis area correct? I know you like to dive at Mermet and you can take the course through them as well. I have heard that they have great instructors. I have not taken a class from them but if you ask b1gcountry he took his dry suit course through Mermet. Let me know if you have any other questions. I will gladly fill you in more after I have taken the course. I have a class date on the 24th and then diving on the 30th.
