I am polling the wet suits brands everyone uses to try to see what more people use. I made it so you can choose multiple brands if you have more that 1 brand of wetsuit, I have an XCEL by the way

I have been wearing a 25.00 clearance wetsuit from Academy Sporting Goods for almost two years, I have definently got my money out of it.

I have Henderson InstaDry, but my next suit will *probably* be the Xcel Polar SCS.

Not counting 3mm suits. Perhaps another instadry? Hardly matters... I barely consider that a wetsuit. LOL

I have Akona, Oceanic, Pinnacle and O'Neal suits..oh an XScuba, and Evo and Pinnacle and Henderson other "stuff". My favorite is the new O'Neal suits....then Pinnacle...

I use a 3mm Scuba Pro S-Tec (no longer made). I'm in the market for a new one so I'll probably go back to Scuba Pro and get one of their new 3mm (unless I find a better suit).

I took a peek at the results, and I'm really not surprised to see several brands more or less tied for top honors. Everyone is different and fit/warmth/style is going to vary greatly from member to member.

I like Pinnacle because they are one of the major brands that has intermediate sizing and tall options in just about all sizes. Since I'm one of those intermediate and tall sizes, they get my vote. Still looking forward to see which comes out on top. Go Pinnacle! :)

Good thread. I'm in the market for one... after I get a whole host of other stuff...
So I'm interested to see what others are wearing and how they like it.
It might be helpful (to me anyway) if you can also add in thickness and if you'd get the same one again.

Sadly, this list does not include the Aussy made ones.

My recommendation is to get one made with the new super stretch stuff... almost like not wearing a suit...and it is more important, the thicker the suit.

Does not matter that the Aussie ones are left out :) Maybe the Aussie divers might say what they wear.
My LDS is recommending the Pinnacle or the Sonar.
I like what I'd read about the super stretch stuff - might be able to get one to fit my odd shape (haha. ok, I'm somewhere between a size 6 & 8 female clothing, or is it 1, 2 or 3 for wetsuit?). Get the smaller size and don't have to worry about it stretching to fit all those flabs.

Love my Henderson Hyperstretch suits and gladly give up a little warmth for ease of putting them on.

When I dive wet, its either in a Henderson Hyperstretch 1.5mm full suit, or a SAS 7mm farmer john and jacket, which IMHO is the absolute bomb. I've had it for 20 years, and it's still very warm and in excellent shape.

If there are fewer spots on the poll than there are options, maybe "other" would be a good thing to include?

Right now I just own one wetsuit, a 3mil Neosport full with gloves and boots but no hood. Now that's the water is a little cooler (in the 60s at most of the area lakes), I'm debating whether just adding a hood would get me by until the water is colder or whether it's time for the 7mil.

The problem with these types of polls is that most divers don't have experience with more than a couple manufactures, and even fewer will have experience with similar suits of the same style for a given model year.

One can't compare a 10 year old henderson 3mm with a new Tilos Superstretch, and come to the conclusion that Henderson 3mm suits suck because manufactures release new lines annually.

Another issue is fit. One individuals perception of two suits will be biased towards the one that fits better even if the non-fitting suit maybe warmer, better made, etc.

Cost is always a factor, and folks that have spent a lot of $$$ of things have a tendency the need to justify their choice. A $300 3mm Henderson Hyperstretch may not be any better made, or keep one warmer than a $120 Tilos Superstretch, but those that have spent the additional $$$ are sometimes very vocal about telling everyone exactly how much better it is. It has to be because it costs 2x as much, right? :smilie40:

I dive a Henderson 5mm hyperstrech. I got the hyperstretch in a slightly smaller size than I'd get for a regular neoprene. I also have an Excel hooded vest. The combo is very versatile.

I did not vote because 2 of my suits are not up there. The 2 suits I use most are a Harvey's 1 mil which I bought on a close out and a Deep See 3/2 which was given to me when the owner could no longer use it.

I also have O'neill, Oceanic, Evo and Quick Silver.

I recently tried on one of the Bare Progressives. Now, that was the Bomb.

My Cressi -Sub 7mil (condor) is quite easy to get in and out of and is quite stretchy.
My weight varies so i didnt want something that wouldnt grow and shrink with me.lol
I have used a Mares Isotherm and it is just as easy as that to get in and out of.
That was a great suit as well but...
The reason i went the Cressi-Sub is that i like the fold over seals on the ankles and wrists and it has good wear protection areas.
I liked the feel of the Sonar Capri and it is a very highly recommended suit here but was a bit hard to get on and off for me and a little bit too restricting.

With my body type I will either need to go with a custom suit or really try many diff brands my problem is most 2xl suits have long enough arms and legs but are to large in upper chest and 1xl has to narrow waist. I have been able to solve some of my problem by wearing a full suit with a hooded vest and stay very comfy even a little two warm.

Like to hear more about what you think of the Mares Isotherm.
I think I had the Capri - it's definitely a Sonar, and had a 'fun' time dancing (or fighting) with the suit putting it on and taking it off.

If what was rented to me was a Sonar Capri, then I might have to look at the Mares, if it's easier. All I know is that it's a Sonar. Being recommended the Pinnacles, and am watching (forum) regarding it. Wetsuit not 'urgent' yet.

I have a one piece with integrated hood. Xcel Polar $350 9/7/6mm with ankle zippers and special lining for ease of getting in and out of. It has special material around the hood and other openings to prevent water flowing in. The front chest zipper is hard for me though. They make many different sizes. It is easy to change, warm, and comfortable in and out of the water.

An Akona 3mm Hyperstretch
A Tilos 7-6-5mm Platinum UltraStretch

My wife has a Oceanic 7mm UltraStretch and a 3MM Pinnacle Hyperstretch.
A shortie is on her wish list and will be the next piece of gear to hunt up on sale.

No brand loyalty it comes down to fit and price. All our suits were on sale for significant amounts off the regular price.

My daughter has the Pinnacle Cruiser 5mm.
I do have to admit though. I haven't worn any of the other manufactures. Well accept, ScubaPro WS's didn't really like the fit.

With that said, I would have to cast my vote for Pinnacle products.

Even the best materials and best craftsmanship doesn't mean a thing if the suit doesn't fit well. While a moderately well made suit of mainstream materials will give great service and comfort if it fits properly.
That said any name brade suit that fits will do so if you're easy to fit shop for the best deal. If you are tough to fit see what's available that does fit and if it's cost seems high maybe a better deal is a custom made suit.

I've got a Bare and its been great - just hit a year diving and other than a little wear on the collar where the velcro catches it is in excellent condition. My only issue is I have short arms so it bunches a little at the wrist . I went thru more than 10 wetsuits before finding one that fit right. And fitting right really does matter.
