first 2 dives on 11/23/7 (my birthday):smiley20::cake::smiley32:.
Ponce De Leon, Fl. at Vortex Spring (Vortex Spring: a Florida Treasure (http://www.vortexspring.com)). Weather=partly cloudy, high in the mid to lower 60s and cloudy. Water=62 degrees and vis was FIVE FEET?!?!?! (that is unusual for Vortex Spring).

Last 2 dives on 11/24/7 with near exact conditions but around 15 feet vis.

Look out ocean, here i come!:tenker:

Congrats. Always a good feeling when you accomplish what you set out to do. Now that the door is open, walk on though and dive in. Here's to many happy and safe years of diving.

Congrats!

The springs were stirred up from last weeks rain fall. It hasnt rained enough to do that in a while. Youve got some luck.. LOL!

well my instructor (who certifies there all the time for years and years) said that even when it floods it is always clear. he said that the spring has changed hands two or three times really recently and the new owners are not sympatico with the original owner (who still has some property rights and privilages and lives on the property), which is leading to some issues in up-keep, such as not using the pumping system to keep things sparkly...who knows, it probably was the rains but it was kinda nice (even though i was apprehensive to begin with) to get certified in a LOW vis situation. made me feel a bit more confident knowing he was comfortable to take us down under the conditions....I DO HAVE SOMETHING TO ASK YOU GUYS BUT I AM PUTTING THAT IN ANOTHER POST, SO KEEP YOUR EYES PEELED FOR IT AND YOU WILL KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT

Yeah, theres some issues there. The new management is having some problems, and the old owners' acting like they still run the place. Not good... "Days of Our Vortex Lives" really.

There's a thread over at ScubaBoard where the new manager discusses some things going on. Mainly his difficulty keeping the viz up.

good luck and congrats!

Get some dives under your belt and work towards your AOW-or the non-padi equivalent.

The reefs off West Palm beach are usually nice this time of year.

They are nice anytime the weather permits (well, most of the time).

Congrats... and wish I lived there - I am so jealous.

And buy stuff from Larry and Joe... oh, and support your local NAUI instructor...

Congrats, Brad.

Seems as though I am in good company as I also got certified yesterday:

My first two open water dives were on 11/17/2007 off of Casino Point, Catalina Island (air temp 60's; water temp high 50's to low 60'0; vis 40' (until all the students stirred up the bottom!!!)) Its a beatiful world down there!!

Then yesterday I did 3 boat dives off of the Magician at Catalina: first off of Fan Grotto (air @ 63; water @ 61 to 55 at 58'), visibility 40'; second off of Bird Rock (same temps, vis down to 30' - BTW I HATE doing the kelp crawl:smiley11: ); third off of Isthmus (air @65, water @ 63 to 58 at 30'), vis way down to 20'.

I like diving off of boats - people are all generally helpful, you can ask questions about their equipment, and the boat crew are full of information.

My next dive is again off Catalina Casino Point in January!! And instead of the digital SLR I have wanted for years, my wonderful wife and daughter are buying me a dive box, reg, octo and DC for Christmas.
