Well as you may have read from my wife's posts, the time has finally come to take a month off and do some much needed diving and relaxing. For the next month we will be traveling and diving as much as possible. I figured this was a perfect time to post some of the pics i'll take and have everyone give their thoughts on how i can improve.

First up is a week of diving here at home in dominica because the family has come to visit. here's a few pics from the night dive we did on friday at tube reef in north dominica.

Very nice! Post what your setup is!

The first pic is an Orange Balled Callimorph.

My only suggestion would be to get closer to your subjects and let them fill the frame. On the frogfish picture your strobe was on the left side and you blew out the coral. Move it to the right side and light up the frogfish better.

Nice start.

WOW...that shot under the peir is awesome! Also, love the banded coral shrimp. Would have loved to see some Dominica whales. Wife & I took a whale tour there on our honeymoon - didn't see a single one.

well after a few delays and in enlightening experience with bahamas air, we finally made it to san salvador. however, our checked bags were not so fortunate and they had all my batteries for my camera. i was able to steal a few AA's from the dive shop but they had to be used sparingly so here's a couple of pics from our first 2 days of diving. (please pray for hammerheads the next 3 days, thanks)

as always, feel free leave any suggestions.

I like your work...for someone new at doing this.. excellent ...now you just need a lot of practice. Your scorpion fish is ever so slightly under flashed, but it is a excellent framing and nice to see the "water" from being more than just a flash image...

well we didn't have any internet in bonaire so i wasn't able to post any pics. after a great week of diving we hit a bit of a snag as my wife had some sort of severe allergic reaction in one of her eyes so we had to leave st. john about an hour after we got there to go to the emergency room in st. thomas. not sure if we're going to make it back to st. john in the next few days or just head straight to tortola. anyway, here's a few pics from our first day of diving in bonaire.

I find these interesting....the first is a great "atmosphere" image... something one normally cannot capture except in very clear water, and while not great art...is the sort of image that is more about diving than photograph.

Second, is a bit over cropped...but is one of those "it is possible to get too close" images... nice even lighting... nice centering...

The last one is almost perfect "wall paper". A type of image I like a lot. I find this sort of image more about art and geometry and less about diving...

I think the first and the third represent types of images that are greatly unappreciated.

Traditional art in photography was and still is about the composition of the image.. and the presentation. But the first image is more about the event. I guess it is somewhat similar to sports photograph, where the moment is what is important. The third almost falls under the concept of pattern/texture, and while it has been around in photography as long is photography has been around, it has a whole new use in the computer age.

pufferfish-thanks for the comments, you always have great advice. keep it coming. i just recently got the wide angle lens and love the pics it takes. i like the blue/silhouette shots.

well, after a short visit to the ER in st. thomas we hung out in a little more luxurious accommodations (mainly for the AC) for 2 nights and now we're back to st. john for a couple nights before we move on. we aren't able to dive so i'll just post a few more pics from bonaire.

well that does it for the UW pics since we weren't able to dive in st. john or tortola. after 28 days, 5 countries and 39 dives it was one of the best times we've ever had.

thanks for all the comments on the photos and feel free to leave some more.
